Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!

Happy Holidays

Happy Holidays to you and your family! Metro Louisville offices will be closed on Monday, January 1.

Safe and Sober Driving

drive sober

The New Year is fast approaching and these are festive times for endless parties with friends, families, and co-workers that can easily lead to drinking too much alcohol.  Drinking and driving accounts for one-third of vehicle-related fatalities in the United States.  Keep your New Year bright by remembering to always drive sober, no matter what.  The Kentucky Office of Highway Safety is partnering with the U.S. Department of Transportation's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) for the National Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over enforcement campaign to help keep impaired drivers off the road. Have a plan about getting home before you start drinking whether it's a cab, a designated driver, or a ride share app.

Holidays to alter waste collection schedules

Solid waste collection services will be altered under the following schedule for the Christmas and New Year’s holiday weeks. There will be no residential garbage, yard waste or recycling collection on Monday, December 25 or Monday, January 1 within in the Urban Services District (former Louisville city limits). Residents who normally have garbage/yard waste/recycling collection on Monday will have service instead on Tuesday, December 26 and Tuesday, January 2. The Tuesday-Friday schedule will also be delayed by one day.

Residents normally serviced by private waste haulers should check with those companies for holiday collection schedules.

The Waste Reduction Center and Staffed Recycling Centers will be closed Saturday December 23, Monday December 25, Saturday December 30 and Monday January 1. The Hazardous Waste Facility will be closed Saturday, December 23 and Saturday December 30.

Christmas Tree Recycling

Trees must not be in plastic bags, and all decorations and lights must be removed. Residents normally serviced by private waste haulers should check with those companies to see whether and when tree pickup is available.Drop-off sites will also be available for all Louisville/Jefferson County residents at three locations on the dates below. Two of the three drop-off sites will also instantly recycle trees into mulch that will be offered back to citizens for home use.

Those wishing to receive mulch must bring an appropriate container in which to carry it.

"Am I Eligible" Screening Tool Launches

Louisville Metro Office of Resilience and Community Services (RCS) launched "Am I Eligible", a new online screening tool for Louisville residents.  “Am I Eligible” invites individuals to complete a brief online survey to determine which RCS programs and services are available to them. This tool is featured on the RCS homepage at https://louisvilleky.gov/government/resilience-and-community-services or can be accessed at https://amieligible.louisvilleky.gov/.  Survey participants are asked to answer questions related to household size and monthly income; whether or not there are children present in the household; is there a disability; as well as what programs are of interest.
