November 4-5 - Derby City Cup impacting traffic near Joe Creason Park

derby city cup logo

Due to the Derby City Cup international cyclocross race November 4 and 5, traffic and parking in and around Joe Creason Park is compromised.

The event will see 900 athletes from across the world compete at the highest level of the sport.

Residents and users of the park and its surroundings should be aware of the following:

  • The speed humps on Sheridan Avenue inside Joe Creason Park have been temporarily moved.
  • During the weekend, traffic into the park will be one-way only into the park off Trevilian Way.
  • On race days, the upper walking path in Joe Creason Park by the Louisville Tennis Center, the Metro Parks and Recreation Administration Building, and down to Beargrass Creek will be closed to pedestrian traffic for safety reasons. The walking path along Newburg Road will be open.

The Derby City Cup is a test event for professional and amateur riders in advance of next year’s USA Cycling National Championships in December. Also, as part of this year’s event, the race is hosting the Pan American Games cycling portion along with a “B4 Festival” – featuring bands, beer, bikes and barbecue.

Admission is free for the general public. Parking at the Louisville Zoo will be $15 for the event, and $5 parking will be available near Bellarmine off Newburg Road.

Lane closures on I-65 South approaching the Kennedy Bridge tonight

Two or three lanes of I-65 South approaching the Kennedy Bridge will be closed overnight tonight to accommodate planned, preventive maintenance on tolling equipment.

The closures are scheduled to begin around 9 p.m. and end by 5 a.m. All ramps will remain open, and all lanes of I-65 South will be open on the Kennedy Bridge.

Similar work will be scheduled soon for tolling equipment on I-65 North. The actual starting date and duration for the work may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen activities occur.
