Join Wilderness Louisville,
Inc. on Saturday, October 21st from 9am-2pm at Jefferson Memorial
Forest for the Wilderness Louisville Forest Adventure. Climb the 52-ft
Alpine Tower, try your hand at archery or fish on Mitchell Hill Lake. Forest
staff and volunteers will introduce visitors to the native plant gardens and
animal exhibits and activities for children including pumpkin decorating, hay
rides and nature-based activities will be held in the Nature Explore
area. Jefferson Memorial Forest staff and volunteers will lead hikes at
various skill levels from 9:15am-12:30pm. The event kicks off at 9am with
a 5K trail race, the Forest Adventure 5k, organized by Headfirst Performance. You can register

The Wilderness Louisville Fall Adventure, sponsored
by Quest Outdoors and Wilderness Louisville, Inc., will be held at Jefferson
Memorial Forest in the Horine Reservation located at 12304 Holsclaw Hill Road
in Fairdale. Event is free and open to the public. Food will be
available for purchase with a portion of food sales benefiting the Forest. More

Don’t miss the first sighting of the new ECHO Mobile! It will be unveiled at the event with an official ribbon cutting ceremony with Mayor Greg Fisher. Recently, Louisville Metro Parks and Recreation and Jefferson Memorial Forest were selected to receive a $30,000 play space grant from the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) and the Walt Disney Company. The mobile nature play unit, ECHO mobile, will bring nature to communities within Louisville and will support the Louisville ECHO initiative. Catch a glimpse of the vehicle and some of the activities that will be coming to a park near you soon!

 The Brightside & Passport Citywide Cleanup is this Saturday October 21. You can join the Fenley Cemetery Daffodil planting. This two- year long clean-up and restoration of the Fenely Cemetery culminated with the dedication of a Kentucky State Historical Society Highway Marker. This last stage will finish with the restoration of daffodils planted throughout the cemetery. Councilwoman Welch has been the major sponsor of the cleanup efforts and all aspects in discovering the history and importance of the cemetery to our area.

1,000 daffodils have been donated for the planting. Gloves and bags will be provided and we will have some
small digging tools, but ask that you bring your own small digging tools, just
in case we do not have enough for everyone. Simple planting instructions will
be provided.
 The 2017 Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular was officially opened Thursday
October 12 by Mayor Greg Fischer, Council Members Vicki Aubrey Welch D13, Marianne Butler D15 and Barbara Sexton Smith D5. The event runs nightly through November 5 in Iroquois Park with 5,000
carved pumpkins lining a ¼-mile walking trail, illuminated at night as an “art
show”.
The event is held nightly rain or shine. Gates open at 7:15
