Breast Cancer Awareness Month, whose roots span decades but was first observed in 1991, honours survivors of breast cancer and those we have lost. Spread awareness - wear a little pink this month, help community support groups and awareness organizations, and support women when they speak openly about their bodies and health.
Domestic Violence Awareness Month, first observed in 1987, is a time for us to mourn those who have died because of domestic violence, celebrate those who have survived, and connect those who work to end violence. Too often, domestic violence falls under our radar, something we can't or don't want to notice. Yet every nine seconds in America, a woman is assaulted or beaten. Make an effort to listen to and believe domestic abuse survivors, give to women's centres, and ensure that abuse will never again be normalized in our society.
If you're going northbound this weekend, you should probably plan your route carefully. Interstate 65 North between I-64 and I-264 will be closed from 8 p.m. on Friday October 20 to 5:30 a.m.
on Monday October
23. While it's closed, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet will install a more skid resistant
surface in the "Hospital Curve" section of I-65 between the Chestnut
Street/Broadway and Muhammad Ali Blvd exits. Asphalt pavement joints
will also be replaced between I-264 and the Chestnut
Street/Broadway exit. (The new surface was installed on the southbound
side in September).
Louisville Water’s Phase 2 project to renovate the historic 48-inch transmission main in
Eastern Parkway is nearing its start. Phase 2 runs from Eastern Parkway
and Beargrass Creek (near Poplar Level) to
Eastern Parkway and I-65. Beginning next week, crews will be on site disconnecting distribution main tie-ins and
cutting trees. This will require a one-day closure of the intersection
of Bradley and Eastern Parkway as well as one westbound lane
of Eastern Parkway. The following week, crews will begin the
construction of the pits that are used to slip-line the existing main.
This work will require the closure of two westbound lanes from Beargrass
Creek to Poplar Level Rd.
Throughout the
project, Louisville Water will keep you updated on how the project will impact you, including further road closures. Check Twitter and Louisville Water's dedicated Eastern Parkway Project web
page to stay up to date.
