MSD Mellwood Road Closures

MSD Mellwood

This past Monday, a section of Mellwood Avenue closed to traffic as MSD continues its work on the Clifton Heights Combined Sewer Overflow Basin.

Drivers need to be aware of the change, which is expected to last until December 1. At the same time, we want to make sure that everyone knows that all shops along the construction area remain open and accessible.

The construction area is Mellwood Avenue, between Brownsboro Road and Muncie Avenue. All shops at the Mellwood Arts Center (www.mellwoodartcenter.com), Mellwood Antiques & Interiors (http://www.mellwoodantiques.com) and Mom’s Music (www.momsmusic.com) will remain OPEN throughout the closure. Bistro 1860 (www.bistro1860.com) and Mellwood Tavern (https://www.facebook.com/MellwoodTavern) are also open.

Mellwood signage

For those traveling from Brownsboro Road, new signs direct local traffic to the businesses via Drescher Bridge and Thompson Avenues. The businesses are also accessible from Zorn Avenue and from River Road via Edith Road. Muncie Avenue remains open.

The Clifton Heights CSO Basin will capture seven million gallons of combined sewer overflow, in an average rainfall year. This underground-covered basin will offer the public and Beargrass Creek protection from combined sewer overflows during periods of wet weather. When completed, the project will be largely invisible to the public.

Underground storage is part of MSD’s larger endeavor to prevent sewage from overflowing into Louisville’s waterways. These underground storage areas retain the mixture of rainwater and sewage until the rain subsides and capacity is available for treatment, then gradually release it back into the sewer system.

Butchertown Porktoberfest – October 6

Porkoberfest

Porktoberfest is a BBQ and pork inspired culinary competition that benefits the BNA. Porktoberfet 2017 will feature some of Louisville's coolest restaurants, chefs, food artisans, and specialty purveyors, all showcasing the best of our city's amazing culinary landscape. Participating restaurants to date include: Lupo, Butchertown Social, Cellar Door Chocolates, Revolution Confections, Butchertown Grocery, Feast BBQ, Commonwealth Cure, and Butchertown Pizza Hall.

Admission to the event is free. Guests can sample bites from some of the featured restaurants by purchasing tasting tickets. $2 will equal one tasting or drink ticket. In addition to the delicious food, guests will enjoy craft beer, cocktails and great live music.

The BNA and a team of volunteers have organized Porktoberfest for the last 5 years, making it a staple of Louisville's event calendar. A portion of all ticket sales from Porktoberfest 2017 will go directly to fund efforts for the beautification of Butchertown and other BNA initiatives.

Louisville Water Bill Has a New Look

LWC bill

Beginning this week, customers will notice a new look to their Louisville Water bill.  It’s a cleaner and much clearer statement.

Louisville Water worked with customers for the new design.  Specifically, the new look makes it easy to locate the amount due and the due date.  The charges for water, wastewater, and other services are clearly separated and there’s a graph that highlights water usage over the past year.  An insert will be included with a future bill that highlights the changes, or visit the following link for information on the new format: http://www.louisvillewater.com/mybill
