There will be no residential garbage, recycling or yard waste collection within the Louisville Metro Urban Services District (former Louisville city limits) on Monday September 4 in observance of the Labor Day holiday. Collection through the week will be delayed by one day beginning with the regular Monday pickups occurring on Tuesday.

Residents who rely on private haulers for garbage, recycling and yard waste collection should consult those haulers about holiday collection schedules.

Also, Jefferson County staffed recycling, hazardous waste and waste reduction facilities will be closed on Saturday September 2 in recognition of the holiday and closed on Monday as usual.

New Habitat Homes Coming to Richmont Terrace Revitalization Project

shg

Develop Louisville’s Office of Housing and Community
Development held a series of community meetings to
gather public input on the city’s revitalization efforts in
the Richmont Terrace community. Metro, in conjunction with the project consultants and engaged community
members, used these meetings and discussions to develop
the Richmont Terrace Revitalization Plan, which will
serve as a resource for the ongoing redevelopment efforts
in this neighborhood. The plan, which was completed in
early summer, primarily focuses on three blocks ; Box-
elder Rd., Shagbark Dr., and Shanks Ln. OHCD is now
in the process of implementing some of the strategies
identified in the document.

All properties have been improved using Federal Community Development Block Grants (CDBG) and, as such, projects must comply with CDBG income restrictions.

For additional information, please contact Adam Lyons,
Project Manager, at 574-1959.

What You Need to Know About Flood Insurance

msd

MSD wants you to know that anyone in Louisville Metro can purchase flood insurance and even though flood insurance isn’t always required, people outside the mapped floodplain can still be at risk.  Over 20% of all National Flood Insurance Program flood insurance claims are from areas outside the mapped high-risk areas. Just a few inches of water from a flood can cause tens of thousands of dollars in damage.  Protect yourself and your home by calling your insurance agent to learn more about flood insurance or by going to www.floodsmart.gov

Public Comment Period for New Fare Collection System Begins

In December 2016, TARC selected SPX Genfare, a new vendor, to implement an innovative Automated Fare Collection System (AFCS). The new system will replace the farebox that has been used on TARC buses for the last 25 years.

Starting today, TARC will be collecting public comment on a proposed fare collection policy. There will be many ways to comment including eight (8) public meetings hosted by TARC where attendees are invited to provide feedback.

The new fare collection system will allow passengers to pay for their rides with the tap of a smartcard as they board a TARC bus. Fares will not increase and cash – exact fare – will still be an option for payment.

The new smart cards will replace all paper products - tickets, passes and paper transfer slips throughout the system, except on TARC3. Electronic transfers between routes will be available after launch.

Passes purchased under the new policy will be activated after the first use, unlike current passes which are activated on specific calendar day(s). TARC also plans to offer new products like the 7-day pass with the new system.

The TARC3 paratransit service will not be part of the initial system change, but is expected to be phased in at a later time.

TARC has planned Open Houses in various communities to gather as much public comment as possible. Below are meeting locations, times and dates and other ways to comment on the fare collection system and policy for those who cannot attend.

“Now is the time to weigh in and have your voice heard while the system is being designed,” says Executive Director Barry Barker. “We’ll continue to provide information as work progresses and decisions are made.”

Details about the plans, including a draft of the fare policy that will govern the new system are available at ridetarc.org. Comments will be carefully reviewed and considered by the TARC Board of Directors before the new fare policy and other fare collection system decisions are finalized.

For more information please contact TARC Customer Service at 502-585-1234 or by email at info@ridetarc.org.

Get Vegetables Fresh From the Garden

fres

This coming Tuesday June 13th the New Roots, Parkland Fresh Stop Market, 1600 Virginia Avenue and partners welcome everyone to the first Parkland Fresh Stop Market of the 2017 growing season! Fresh Stop Markets (FSM) are run by leaders in a grassroots food justice movement that operates from the belief that fresh food is a basic human right. FSMs are volunteer, community-driven farm-fresh food markets that pop up bi-weekly at local churches and community centers in fresh food insecure neighborhoods.

“Shareholders” agree to cooperate and pay ahead of time, on a sliding scale, for ten varieties of seasonal, local, organic produce that can then be picked up at a given time and day, at one of the 15 different Kentucky and southern Indiana Markets. This cooperation and financial commitment ensures that farmers don’t face the same degree of risk as with traditional farmers’ markets. The sliding scale means food is affordable and everyone is included. The deadline for ordering your share of produce is this Friday, June 9th at 9 PM.

Please go to http://www.newroots.shop/<http://www.newroots.shop/> to order. Families on SNAP please call 502-509-6770 to place your order. You can also email nfo@newroots.org<mailto:info@newroots.org>. WIC participants pay $6, those at or below 185 percent federal poverty guidelines pay $12, others pay $25, and those who would like to invest in the community pay $40.

>
> Everyone gets the same food! At every Market a chef hosts a cooking demonstration, offering samples and recipes for the very same vegetables and fruits that shareholders bring home. There is a diverse, family reunion atmosphere.
>
