Vacant and Abandoned Houses in District 2
District 2 is working to identify abandoned and boarded
houses. If you know of any abandoned houses or those boarded up, please contact
Councilwoman Shanklins’ office at 502.574.1102 to provide address of these
houses. Please leave your number in case we need to reach you for
clarification. This is an important task and a complicated process. Your
assistance is greatly appreciated and we ask your patience for the time frame to
complete the project.

Difference Workshop Series

“4 Your Child” is an eight-week fatherhood program that aims to improve the
quantity and quality of fathers” involvement by integrating responsible
parenting, economic stability, and relationship education services.
Participants may be compensated for their time up to $220 but registration is

Association of Kentuckiana
On May 17, 2017 David Lawhorn,
Kentucky Education Savings Plan Trust Manager presented Nicholas, with a $1,000
check for his college saving account.
Nicholas, a third grader at Slaughter Elementary was one of eight Kentucky
students to receive the award from the KESPT Dream Out Loud Challenge. The
Dream Out Loud Challenge invited students from Pre-kindergarten-through sixth
grade to submit an original drawing, poem, essay or video answering the
question, “How will I change the world after college.” Nicholas submitted a
video. According to the KESPT, more than 1,100 Kentucky students participated
and Nicholas was the only winner from Jefferson County. In addition, each Dream
Out Loud Challenge winner’s school received $500.00.

Clinic Downtown Provides Free Cardiovascular Care
In 2008, Dr. Michael
Imburgia and a group of his colleagues approached their bosses at Baptist Health
with a question. After working at the hospital for many years, they recognized
a need from the community that they had not been able to address. They decided
they wanted to provide free care to patients without insurance. The doctors
asked their bosses if they could use the space at Baptist Health to begin
providing free cardiovascular care, including checkups on heart issues and
follow-ups when necessary. Their supervisors said yes — and with that, the Have
A Heart Foundation was born.

 The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration today released the 2017 edition of Drugs of Abuse, A DEA Resource Guide.
The Drugs of Abuse guide is released on a periodic basis and designed to be a reliable resource on the most commonly abused and misused drugs in the United States. The guide provides important science-based information about the harms and consequences of drug use, describing a drug’s effects on the body and mind, overdose potential, origin, legal status, and other key factors. The 2017 edition updates the 2015 Drugs of Abuse publication with the most current information on new and emerging trends in drug misuse and abuse, including fentanyl, other opioids, and synthetic drugs.
Because education plays a critical role in preventing substance abuse, this comprehensive guide is intended as a tool not just for medical practitioners and law enforcement officials, but also for educators, families, and communities. Getting to the Waste Reduction Center
The Waste Reduction Center at 636
Meriwether Avenue provides a means for all Louisville/Jefferson County
residents to properly dispose of tires and household bulk waste including
metals, appliances, electronics, tree limbs and stumps up to three feet in
diameter, loose yard waste, construction debris and furniture. Up to
three household junk items per day may be dropped off at no charge. Bulk
loads or drop-offs exceeding three items will be charged according to
this fee schedule. To use the center you must
check in at the gate house at the corner of Bland Street and Meriwether
Avenue. Turn onto Bland from Meriwether and then turn right to go to the blue
gate house.
