How to file a damage claim with MSD
From MSD: Property Owners may file
damage claims by calling MSD Customer Relations at 587-0603. They will
need to reference the Camp Taylor Sewer Project, provide their name, address,
phone number, and a brief description of their damage claim.
MSD will
forward the information to our contractor for them to investigate and render a
decision on the claim in writing to the property owner. Additional
information may be required such as receipts or photos as applicable. If the Contractor denies responsibility for the claim, the property owner
may appeal the decision by contacting MSD Customer Relations again and request
that the claim be evaluated by MSD.
MSD and our field
representatives will monitor and track the claim progression to make sure the
contractor is responsive.

Every Saturday - Schnitzelburg Community Farmers Market
Greg from Talking Trees Gardens reports that the first round of starburst carrots are ready for the Schnitzelburg Community Farmers Market.
Greg gave the SCFM Facebook page a little carrot history: carrots were not originally orange. They were bred that way for Dutch royalty and the color stuck. Eating all three colors together has its advantages, as each color of carrot has specific beneficial vitamin characteristics.
The Schnitzelburg Community Farmers Market is at 1481 South Shelby Street, every Saturday, rain or shine, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The Louisville Nature Center offers summer camps for kids
ages 6 to 12, and include topics from drawing animals to "Trackem and
Smackem," which includes tracking wildlife in the morning and tennis at
the Louisville Tennis Center in the afternoon, and one called "Yucky

The Louisville Zoo presents the Butterflies 'n' Blooms Butterfly
exhibit, through Sept. 24, daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., weather
permitting. Experience hundreds of graceful native butterflies sipping
nectar from colorful flowers, basking in the sunlight and flying freely as you
wander through our new 1,000-square-foot outdoor flight house located in the
Africa Zone. Free with Zoo admission.
The
Cyril Allgeier Community Center offers youth, adult, and senior citizen
programs in the Camp Taylor Neighborhood. Programs include 50 & over men's
basketball, youth sports (flag football, volleyball, & basketball), adult
aerobics, and Girl Scouts.
Summer hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and
Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The community center
features a full size basketball court that is available for open gym as well as
for rent, and also has a large meeting room that is available for community

HIV Testing Week
National HIV Testing Week is
June 25 – July 1. Public Health and Wellness will be working with several
partners to promote and offer free, instant testing at several sites across the city.

HIV is a preventable
disease, and is
too often discovered at an advanced stage. Identifying persons early in
infection and providing them with appropriate counseling, education, and
linkage to care are necessary steps to controlling HIV.
Getting to
jobs, the movies, recreational activities and fun events around Louisville is
affordable and easy for young people with the TARC Summer Youth Pass, which
is available now.
The pass costs $30 and is available to anyone 6-19 years
old. With the pass, youths can take unlimited TARC rides on all routes
from June 1 to August 31.
All TARC buses are equipped with bicycle racks that can
provide greater mobility.

New Farmers Market
Association and Guide to Local Food Resources
Louisville
has a new Farmers Market Association (LFMA). The purpose of the new association
is to support farmers markets, farmers and local food producers to promote

Volunteers of America has recently expanded addiction recovery
services to help battle the opioid crisis. VOA offers residential, outpatient
services and transitional housing to men, women, and pregnant or parenting

Become a Foster
Grandparent!
Participants in the Louisville Metro Foster Grandparent Program (FGP) are individuals 55 years or older who tutor and assist children with special or exceptional learning needs in essential skills such as reading, writing and math, while offering the basic guidance of a mentor, advocate and friend. Currently, more than 130 Foster "Grannies" and "Grandpas" share their compassion and caring at over 28 sites including Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS), Boys & Girls Clubs and several community centers and after school programs.
Volunteers provide a minimum of 15 hours up to a maximum of 40 hours of service per week and may qualify for a tax-free, hourly stipend as well as free supplemental accident and liability insurance while serving. LouVelo bike share program
The LouVelo network offers 305 bikes positioned at 27
stations in downtown, Old Louisville, NuLu, and points in between.
The service makes bicycles available for short-term use for a fee. The
bikes can be picked up at one station and returned to any other station in the
system, which makes it easy for people looking to get from one location to
another during the work or school day without driving a car, and those riding
for leisure, recreation or just touring the city.

Cultural Pass and
Summer Reading Programs
Plenty of learning
opportunities for Louisville students of all ages await over the next three
months.
Cultural
Pass
The Cultural Pass supports and encourages lifelong learning by providing free access
to 38 of Greater Louisville’s arts and cultural institutions for children and
young adults to age 21. The Pass is valid from June 3 to August 12 for one-time

Summer Reading
The Library’s annual Summer Reading Program is a free 10-week
program that encourages kids and teens to read for fun over the summer by
offering prizes and incentives. Every child—from infant through 12th grade—who

Louisville Metro Bats nights
The Louisville Bats are hosting two
types of Louisville Metro Government Nights.
Metro Council Mondays: the Bats
will host groups and organizations doing the good of the community on July 17 and August 28. Examples include school
fundraisers and charity auctions.
Community Nights: The Bats will host two
community nights, providing tickets, hot dogs, and soft drinks to non-profit
groups who would not be able to afford a Bats game under regular circumstances.
These two nights include 4,000 guests for each game on July 18 and August 2.
Groups will need to contact the Bats office directly to sign up for the
program. Examples include mentoring organizations and social service agencies.

Alley Cat Advocates can help get unowned cats fixed and vaccinated at no cost to caretakers
Cat caretakers living in the following Jefferson County zip
codes 40208, 40209, 40213, 40214, 40215, 40216, 40217, 40219, 40258 and
40272 are eligible for spay/neuter services for unowned community
cats. They will be vaccinated, spayed/neutered, treated for flea and
ear-mite medicine, given a great vet visit, ear-tipped (the universal symbol of
a neutered cat) and returned.
When there are no more
kittens; the number of cats gradually goes down and annoying behaviors
such as yowling, fighting, and spraying stop.

June 24 - Fan Fair for local seniors and disabled residents
On June 24, a “Fan Fair” will be held from 8 a.m. to noon to distribute fans at The Edison Center at 701 West Ormsby Avenue. Fans will be available for seniors 60 and older, as well as to individuals with physical disabilities, on a first-come, first-served basis.
Fan Fair qualifications:
- Person 60 years or older
- OR documentation verified by a physician of a disability
- Must be a resident of Jefferson, Oldham, Henry, Shelby, Spencer, Trimble or Bullitt counties
- Proof of address and age will we required
- One fan per household

July 2 - Buy Local Fair
The Louisville Independent Business Alliance (LIBA) will host the (rescheduled) 9th Annual Buy Local Fair on Sunday, July 2 from noon to 6 p.m. at the Louisville Water Tower Park. Presented by Louisville Water Company, admission to the Buy Local Fair is free and parking is $5 per vehicle, or free for bicycle parking.
The fair will include 180 booths from a variety of local businesses, artists and craftspeople, community organizations, and farmers, as well as live music, The Trend Appliances cooking competition, a cocktail competition, food and drink vendors, a ValuMarket craft beer tent, Cox’s Back Porch area for the grownups and a children’s area as well.
The mission of the Buy Local Fair is to provide a venue that fosters cooperation, cross-pollination and strength in numbers for locally-owned, independent entities. Part of the I Am Ali Festival, "Capturing Ali's Spirit: Creating a City of Peace and Safety" community conversation will be Thursday, July 6 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Ali Center. The conversation will be followed by a reception.
