New Farmers Market Association and Guide to Local Food Resources

Farmers Market Assoc logo

Louisville has a new Farmers Market Association (LFMA). The purpose of the new association is to support farmers markets, farmers and local food producers to promote access to a healthy and sustainable food system. LFMA does this by providing assistance such as marketing, financial advisement, vendor and volunteer recruitment to increase the capacity of farmers markets. It also helps to facilitate better access to healthy fruits and vegetables for everyone by helping the markets support SNAP (food stamps) participants through the Double Dollars Program and Free EBT Equipment and seniors through the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program.

There is also now a new Guide to Local Food Resources that provides a map and list of all of Louisville’s farmers markets, Fresh Stop markets and Healthy Corner Stores. Click here to see the guide.

From the Coalition for the Homeless: In the last couple of weeks, local homeless shelters have experienced situations where the parents of children in their programs have been hospitalized for drug over doses leaving the children alone at the shelter.

If you are aware of such a situation, remember the YMCA Safe Place Program and hotline. They are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week at 502-635-5233. They will help you determine the best option for the youth and provide a safe place for them to be until they can determine if it is best for them to go to the youth shelter, connect with family or connect to DCBS for state custody.

New Directions is dedicated to creating safe and habitable homes for low-income, elderly and disabled homeowners. One of the most visible ways we accomplish this mission is through our Repair Affair program. Repair Affair mobilizes community-wide resources and volunteer support to assist these vulnerable homeowners with essential home repairs.

The focus of Repair Affair is on home safety, security, weatherization and neighborhood stability. Best of all the assistance is completely free to the recipients.
