New Farmers Market Association and Guide to Local Food Resources
Louisville has a new Farmers Market Association (LFMA). The purpose of the new association is to support farmers markets, farmers and local food producers to promote access to a healthy and sustainable food system. LFMA does this by providing assistance such as marketing, financial advisement, vendor and volunteer recruitment to increase the capacity of farmers markets. It also helps to facilitate better access to healthy fruits and vegetables for everyone by helping the markets support SNAP (food stamps) participants through the Double Dollars Program and Free EBT Equipment and seniors through the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program.
There is also now a new Guide to Local Food Resources that provides a map and list of all of Louisville’s farmers markets, Fresh Stop markets and Healthy Corner Stores. Click here to see the guide.

Summer Reading
The Library’s annual Summer Reading Program is a free 10-week

offering prizes and incentives. Every child—from infant through 12th grade—who
completes the program will receive a backpack or aluminum water bottle, along
with passes to local attractions like the Kentucky Science Center, Squire Boone
Caverns, a Bats baseball game, the Frazier History Museum, and more.
For more information, or to pre-register for Summer Reading, visit LFPL.org/SummerReading, or call 502-574-1620.
Other summer programs
To help families sort through the many summer offerings, a
searchable database of quality Out of School Time (OST) programs is available
through 2-1-1. Thanks to the BLOCS community partnership, families can access
this resource year-round by visiting www.louisvilleblocs.org and clicking on
the 2-1-1 link. The list is also available by dialing Metro United Way’s 211
call-in line, or accessing the 211 app.
YMCA Safe Place provides referrals to kids, including those affected by a family overdose

From the Coalition for the Homeless: In
the last couple of weeks, local homeless shelters have experienced situations
where the parents of children in their programs have been hospitalized for
drug over doses leaving the children alone at the shelter.
If you are aware of such a situation, remember the YMCA Safe
Place Program and hotline. They are available 24 hours a day, seven days a
week at 502-635-5233. They will help you determine the best option for the
youth and provide a safe place for them to be until they can determine if it
is best for them to go to the youth shelter, connect with family or connect
to DCBS for state custody.

Metro Repair Affair

New Directions is dedicated to creating safe and habitable homes for low-income, elderly and disabled homeowners. One of the most visible ways we accomplish this mission is through our Repair Affair program. Repair Affair mobilizes community-wide resources and volunteer support to assist these vulnerable homeowners with essential home repairs.
The focus of Repair Affair is on home safety, security, weatherization and neighborhood stability. By simply installing hand rails, fixing broken steps, or making modifications to accommodate a wheel chair we can make it possible for a senior or disabled homeowner to remain independently in their own home. Best of all the assistance is completely free to the recipients.
Join the hundreds of volunteers for the June 10 Louisville event or the June 3 Southern Indiana event. Visit http://www.ndhc.org/programs-repair/ to volunteer or donate.
