Status Update on the Black Leaf Site

In April, The Kentucky Division of Waste Management completed their review of the Corrective Action Plan, including the comments submitted on behalf of ExxonMobil, Maxus Energy, Occidental, and Geif Inc. regarding the former Black Leaf Chemical Site.

The Corrective Action Plan calls for the clean-up of the BlackLeaf Chemical site in coordination with all involved parties, which includes the removal and replacement of contaminated soil among other remedies.

This issue is ongoing and our office is committed to keeping our community apprised of developments as they occur. In the coming months, we will hold a community meeting to discuss the current status. Details of that meeting will be made available soon in our eNewsletter.

For any questions, please call the District 6 office at 574-1106.

May 19: 6th Annual SpringFest

Springfest

The Toonerville Trolley Neighborhood Association (TTNA) and District 6 Councilman David James are proud to again present the 6th Annual Old Louisville Springfest on Friday May 19th from 4 to 9pm (eastern), Saturday May 20th from 10am to 9pm and are now expanding to Sunday May 21st from noon to 6pm.

Springfest is held on First Street and Ormsby Avenue in historic Old Louisville and presents a wonderfully eclectic selection of vendors, artists, non-profit organizations, the Kosair Charities Kidzone (Saturday from noon-6pm) and tasty festival food choices and local food trucks.

For the adults, cocktails, live music and the now famous bourbon slushes will also be on tap. Springfest is again honored to present in concert one of the hottest (and most creative) local bands, In Lightening! The band will perform Saturday from 7-9pm.

“This is another great opportunity to come explore Old Louisville. I encourage everyone to come out, kick back and enjoy themselves as we shake off winter and welcome the new season,” says Councilman David James (D-6). “The organizers of Springfest have combined entertainment, fun and the uniqueness of Old Louisville as the perfect way to enjoy the weekend.”

Vendors, artists and food trucks interested in being a part of Springfest are encouraged to apply before April 1st. The final date for applications to be accepted is May 1st. Visit the Springfest website for all of the information and application process (www.oldlouisvilleSpringfest.org). This event is free to the public.

Public Meeting on the Budget at the Louisville Urban League

On Monday, May 22nd, Metro Council Members David James, Jessica Green, Mary Woolridge, Barbara Sexton-Smith, and Cheri Bryant-Hamilton, invite you to attend the public budget meeting for the proposed 2017-2018 capital and operating budgets. The meeting will take place at the Louisville Urban League located at 1535 West Broadway.

This is your chance to share your thoughts on setting priorities for funding that improves the quality of life of our residents, and what should be in the upcoming budget. It is important to hear from folks in our neighborhoods, home owners, and business owners.  All are invited to participate and ask questions.   It’s your money, now is your chance to tell your Metro Council members about your feeling on how it’s being spent in our community.

If you live in districts 1,3,4,5, and 6… don’t miss the public budget meeting Monday, May 22nd, from 6:30 to 8:30pm at the Louisville Urban League located at 1535 West Broadway.

We’re bringing the budget public input process from city hall… to the community. We hope to see you there!
