Don’t Wait Until April, Make Your Tax Appointment Now! The Louisville Asset Building Coalition (LABC) is providing FREE tax preparation services again in 2017. The service is FREE if you earned $55,000 Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) or less in 2016 or if you qualify for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC). Call the office today to see if you qualify and make your appointment! Appointments are available on Fridays (March 24, and April 7, 14) between 9:15 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Please call the office at 574-3908 to make an appointment.       Do you file your own taxes? Through the LABC website there are two options to self-file online. The “Turbo Tax Freedom Edition” is available if you have $31,000 or less in income. The software has a well-designed interview process that guides you through the process of making decisions about your filing status, inputting your income and making decisions about deductions and tax credits for which you may qualify. The other option is “My Free Taxes”, which is available if you make $62,000 or less. This program is developed by H&R Block and uses an interview process. Shoe Drive for JCPS students New and like-new shoes for students are being collected as part of the Mayor's Week of Service. Donations of shoes can be accepted at the Clothing Assistance Program, located inside the Central High School Football Stadium at 319 South 15th Street, or at any Neighborhood Place (call MetroCall at 311 or 574-5000 to locate the one nearest you). We need new or like-new shoes for boys and girls in kindergarten through grade twelve, with an emphasis on sneakers and athletic shoes. Read more details.

Kentucky Shakespeare Kicks Off Annual 

SHAKESPEARE IN THE PARKS Tour

We started with nine parks in 2014 and this Spring we are thrilled to serve a record 23 neighborhoods in the Kentuckiana area,” says Producing Artistic Director Matt Wallace. “This new adaptation of Shakespeare’s political thriller is jam-packed with powerful issues that resonate in our world today.”  He added, “We thank the nineteen Louisville Metro Council members who’ve sponsored the performances in their districts, the Mayors of Lyndon, New Albany, Jeffersonville and Jeffersontown, White Clay, Humana, and other generous individuals who have helped us put together this special event for our community.”  

The production is directed by Wallace and features an ensemble cast of six professional actors.  Robert Thompson plays the title role of Julius Caesar, with Dathan Hooper as Brutus, Alisha Espinosa as Portia, Neill Robertson as Cassius, Owen Kresse as Mark Antony, and Sabrina Spalding as Casca. All of the actors also play other multiple roles in the production. The production also features costumes by Donna Lawrence-Downs, sound design by Jon Becraft, and set constructed by Charles Nasby.

Summary of JULIUS CAESAR

This drama is one of the great tragedy themed plays by William Shakespeare. Julius Caesar is a highly ambitious political leader and his aim is to become dictator. Caesar is warned that he must "beware the Ides of March.” The prophecy comes true and Caesar is assassinated due to the plotting of Brutus and Cassius. The friend of Julius Caesar, Mark Antony, provides the famous funeral oration ("Friends, Romans, and countrymen…") Brutus and Cassius meet their inevitable defeat which plunges the country into civil war.

Rental Property Deadline Extended The deadline to register your rental property has been extended to April 3, 2017. All property located in Louisville Metro and occupied or offered for occupancy in exchange for money or any other consideration must be registered with Louisville Metro Government. Failure to register is subject to a fine up to $100 per day per housing unit. Registration must include the rental unit street address along with current contact information of the owner and managing operator. Registration requires an account with Develop Louisville.
