Plans for a $5 million redevelopment of Colonial Gardens in
south Louisville were filed by the site’s developer, Underhill
Associates. The adaptive reuse project includes renovating the
7,000-quare-foot historic Colonial Gardens building, as well as adding two new,
one-story buildings that will share a common patio and garden area. Developers
are in talks with local restaurant groups to occupy the space on the corner of
Kenwood Drive and New Cut Road.
|

Councilman Dan Johnson, District 21: “The
restoration and reopening of Colonial Gardens is a top priority of mine, and I
look forward to continuing my work with the administration to ensure this
project is successful. When it opens, Colonial Gardens will not only restore a
historic piece of the neighborhood, it could be the economic spark I have long
advocated for in this area.”
Construction is expected to begin on the property in mid- to late spring
2017.

Metro Public Works (MPW) Roads and Operations Division works
year round patching potholes whenever they are reported. MPW encourages anyone
who spots a pothole in Louisville to report it to MetroCall as quickly as
possible. There are several ways to do it:
Whichever method you choose, make sure to be as specific with location
information as you can. Don't assume someone else has reported it.

Metro
Public Works (MPW) would like to remind residents of alley and sidewalk
maintenance requirements.
Residents/property owners in Louisville are required by ordinance
to maintain the alleys adjacent to their properties and keep the sidewalks
clear. That includes clearing overgrowth and shoveling snow as outlined below.
The Property Maintenance Code contained
in the Louisville Code of Ordinances states in part, "in the case of a
single family structure, the owner shall keep the premises free of all weeds
and prohibited plant growth...to the center line of such street, easement or
alley as are adjacent to or abut the premises."
"Every owner of a dwelling containing two or more dwelling
units shall maintain, in a clean, safe and sanitary condition, and free of all
weeds and prohibited plant growth...the shared or public areas of the dwelling
and premises thereof to the center line of such street, easement or alley as
are adjacent to or abut the premises."
SIDEWALK SNOW REMOVAL
Chapter 97 on Streets and Sidewalks says in part, "It
shall be the duty of all persons and corporations owning or occupying property
abutting a public street in Louisville Metro to remove within 24 hours
thereafter such snow as may fall on the sidewalks in front of their
property. Where the property is unimproved or unoccupied this duty shall
devolve on the owner or the agent for the property. Where property is
occupied by others than owners thereof, this duty shall devolve on the owner or
the tenants and either may be proceeded against for the violation.
(B) Snow
when removed from the sidewalk shall be placed either on private property or in
the public driveway at a distance not less than 12 inches from the curbing of
the sidewalk. However, in no event shall the snow be so placed as to
obstruct the free passage of water in the gutter or in the direction of any
sewer or catch basin.

Who should attend this workshop?

the land you care about is a small residential yard in the city, a suburban
lawn, a working farm, a scenic estate or a public park, chances are there are invasive
plants that detract from the ecological and historic integrity of the land. It

restoration project. This workshop will give you the resources, knowledge and
inspiration to get started,” said Lisa Hite, planning manager for Louisville
Metro Parks and Recreation.
Cost of the workshop is $35 for regular attendees and $15 for
students and includes a box lunch. Reservations are required by January 30. To
