LMPD: How to Call the Police When Crime is Occuring

LMPD how to call

REMINDER: ATV Vehicle Activity - Illegal on Public Roadways

ATV

With school out for the summer and the warm weather pushing everyone outside, LMPD tends to receive an increase in calls related to ATV activity in District 12 and Southwest Louisville. The District 12 office has received many calls in recent weeks regarding an increase in ATV activity in our neighborhoods.

Many people are not aware that it is not legal to operate all-terrain vehicles on any public highway, roadway or right-of-way of any public highway or roadway.

LMPD 3rd Division Major Frank Hardison reminds constituents that it is against the law to use ATV's on a public roadway in Kentucky (KRS 189.515).

RESCHEDULED - LIBA's Annual Buy Local Fair - July 2nd

Buy Local

Buy Local Fair

Sunday, July 2, 12m-6pm

Louisville Water Tower Park, 3005 River Road

www.keeplouisvilleweird.com/buylocalfair

**Due to inclement weather on the original event date, the Buy Local Fair has been reschedule for Sunday, July 2**

The Buy Local Fair returns for its 9th year on Sunday, July 2nd from 12n to 6pm at the Louisville Water Tower Park.

This local favorite will include more than 200 booths from a variety of local businesses, artists and craftspeople, community organizations, and farmers, as well as live music, Trend Appliances cooking competition, craft cocktail competition, food and drink vendors, ValuMarket craft beer tent, Cox’s Back Porch area for the grownups and a children’s area as well. Presented by the Louisville Water Company, the event also gets major support from Amish Hills Furniture and Louisville Metro Council.

“It’s a great feeling to hear from our visitors and vendors about how much they love the Buy Local Fair,” says Jennifer Rubenstein, Director of the Louisville Independent Business Alliance. “We put this event on with our member businesses as the focal point, and the public really digs it. There’s such a variety of local independent businesses that are unique and fun – and that makes a community impact by keeping more dollars circulating locally!”

Attendees may not have the local economy on their mind when they’re buying the perfect birthday gift, or chowing on their favorite local burger, but the Louisville Local Impact Study shows that the money spent will circulate locally over 3 times more than when spent at a chain. And that’s the beauty of the Buy Local Fair – building community while having a remarkable experience.

Admission to the Buy Local Fair is free and parking is $5 per vehicle (or free for bicycle parking). Visit www.keeplouisvilleweird.com/buylocalfair for more info.

National HIV Testing Week - June 25-July 1

National HIV Testing Week is June 25 – July 1. Metro Public Health and Wellness will be working with several partners to promote and offer free testing at several sites across the city.

HIV is a preventable disease.  HIV prevention is a goal in our community health improvement plan, Healthy Louisville 2020.  HIV is too often discovered at an advances stage.  Identifying persons early in infection and providing them with appropriate counseling, education, and linkage to care are necessary steps to controlling HIV.

Free, instant HIV testing is available at several locations throughout Louisville next week. Please see the schedule below.

New Dixie Highway: Making Dixie Highway More Attractive

DH Attract

In addition to making Dixie Highway safer and more efficient, the New Dixie Highway project will also help create a more attractive corridor. This has many positive effects for a community. While street beautification certainly makes traveling more pleasing and attractive for individuals, the visual improvements are also good for economic development in the area.

Landscaping will vary significantly along the road, due to various factors. For example, in some places the medians will not be wide enough to sustain plantings.

Between Greenwood Road and Crums Lane, current plans call for the upgraded Bus Rapid Transit stations to be complemented with growing trees.

And within the median area, there will be low evergreen shrubs, native grasses and flowering plants – creating a layered effect.

The Watterson Expressway interchange right-of-way will also incorporate plantings of smaller trees, shrubs, and perennials to help create a welcoming gateway.
