The above map indicates which roads will
be impacted by construction next week. The streets marked in red or yellow will
be impacted by construction. The other streets are not expected to be impacted
by construction. We will be providing this map each week to give you the best
information with respect to traffic impacts caused by the Camp Taylor 2b &
4 Sanitary Sewer Replacement Project.
The proposal
for an indoor storage facility to be located at the now vacant Kmart property at 4025 Poplar Level Road has been terminated. The developer has
withdrawn his proposal. The owner of the property continues to market the
property for alternative prospects through his Real Estate Broker.
So, going
forward, this property could be occupied by a business not seeking re-zoning
and this would require little public input. Or, another developer could bring a
new proposal which would ask for different zoning and we will be back at square
one regarding the zoning process starting with the initial neighborhood
hearing. Our office will keep you posted on any new developments.
A new automated telephone and online appointment system will
help clients schedule appointments to apply for home energy
assistance. The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)
provides financial assistance to help income eligible residents pay
utility bills.
Citizens will be able to make appointments by calling (502)
991-8391 or by going to http://www.louisvilleky.cascheduler.com.
Citizens seeking an appointment will be able to get needed
information and to schedule an appointment. The system, which will operate 24
hours per day, seven days a week, provides a confirmation number indicating
that an appointment was successfully scheduled.
Also new this year: Four Neighborhood Place sites will be open
for LIHEAP application appointments, in addition to the Newburg Community
Center/East (4810 Exeter Avenue) and the Southwest Government Center (7219
Dixie Highway).
- Northwest Neighborhood
Place/Academy at Shawnee, 4018 W Market Street.
- South Central Neighborhood
Place, 4255 Hazelwood Avenue.
- Neighborhood Place
Ujima/Duvalle Education Center, 3610 Bohne Avenue.
- Neighborhood Place/Bridges of
Hope, 1411 Algonquin Parkway.
Appointments will no longer be made at the Urban Government
Center at 810 Barret Avenue, which is closing.
Individuals who are unable to apply for this program in person
may send a representative on their behalf with a note including the applicant’s
signature and phone number. Call 574-1157 for more details on how this process works.
Residents who are homebound and who are unable to send a representative may
call 502-485-7230 ext. 2239.

pre-registration, click here or contact MetroCall 311
by dialing 311 or 574-5000.
Access to
the internet is no longer a luxury. It is a necessity. Citizens need access to
the internet in order to apply for jobs, access educational resources and
government services. Households and individuals that do not have access to a
home internet connection are at a disadvantage.
Due to
recent actions by the Federal Government, Internet Service Providers are
starting to offer low-cost internet plans to eligible households. Right now,
AT&T is the only internet service provider in Louisville offering low-cost
internet plans to qualified individuals.
Its plan
is called "AT&T Access". It costs between $5 and $10 a month for
a home network and modem with no installation or activation charges, and it is
available to residents that have at least one member in their household
enrolled in the SNAP program.
For more
information, please visit:https://www.att.com/shop/internet/access/#/
AT&T retail stores are not able to
process Access from AT&T applications or orders. You must access the
application on the website and
submit the form online or via email. You may also print the form and send via
fax or mail. If you experience difficulties with the online form, you can
contact an AT&T representative by phone at 855.220.5211. (For help in Spanish, call 855.220.5225.)

LG&E will have crews and equipment in the Bardstown Road area
between Buechel and Hurstbourne Parkway beginning in November and extending through most of Spring 2017.
This is a transmission expansion project to ensure system reliability
in the area. LG&E will replace 26 transmission poles and 1.3 miles of
conductor as part of this project. Once all of the traffic permits are
acquired from Louisville Metro and Kentucky Transportation, work will
begin. It is likely lane closures will occur between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. along
Bardstown Road.
This
is routine construction to help with reliability in the area.
Due to additional work required to properly repair the Ohio River Levee Trail, a section that began seeing construction in early October has had the project deadline extended through Nov. 24.
Crews from MAC Construction, contracted by the Louisville Metropolitan Sewer District, began work on a 2.12-mile section of the Louisville Loop Oct. 3 to repair and repave
the path from Riverview Park to Riverside, the Farnsley-Moremen
Landing.

A new
Neighborhood Place will open next week in the East Government Center in
Middletown, replacing the location in the soon-to-close Urban Government
Center.
The
relocation, which took place Tuesday, will allow Neighborhood Place to expand
its footprint to a part of the city underserved by this agency. About 18,000
families in the zip codes served at the new location qualify for the school
free or reduced lunch program.
The new
location at 200 Juneau Drive will be named for Jane Charmoli, one of
Neighborhood Place’s founding champions.
The Charmoli
Center will house staff from multiple agencies — Louisville
Metro Community Services, Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS), Kentucky
Cabinet for Health and Family Services and Seven Counties Services, Inc. —in
one accessible location. Core services provided include:
- Financial and housing assistance with case
management services
- Juvenile and school-related services
- Child abuse intervention and prevention
- Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program
- Medicaid Assistance
- Substance abuse assessment
- A Dare to Care emergency food pantry
- Self-sufficiency programs
All agency email
addresses and phone numbers, including the main front desk line of 574-6638, will
remain the same. The Charmoli Center will have ample, free parking at the new
facility which is also accessible by a couple of TARC bus routes. The hours of operation are Monday through
Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
A total of eight
Neighborhood Places, along with two satellite sites, serve residents across Jefferson
County. The decision to relocate 810
Barret Neighborhood Place was prompted by the closure of the Urban Government
Center. The 810 Barret location was previously the most eastern Neighborhood
Place.
Residents are free to seek services from any
of the eight Neighborhood Places. To find a
Neighborhood Place in their area, residents may call 311 or 574-5000, or visit https://louisvilleky.gov/government/neighborhood-place.

The Eastern Parkway water main replacement project is underway.
Earlier this week, crews began work in front of the Medical Arts complex, which
means one westbound lane from Eastern Parkway and Beargrass Creek (near Poplar
Level) to Barret will be closed for approximately five weeks.
Generally, construction will start at Beargrass Creek and move east toward Cherokee Park.
Prep work will also include crews working on mains in side
streets that tie into the 48-inch pipe along Eastern Parkway,
installing new valves and digging for construction pits.
Louisville Water will continue to update customers on the impact
of the project. Communications channels include emails,
Twitter updates, a dedicated web page at LouisvilleWater.com/EasternPkwyProject
showing construction and traffic, and frequent media updates.
Develop Louisville seeks input from young people on Louisville's
Comprehensive Plan. This plan establishes a framework to guide public and private
decisions about future growth, preservation and changes within a local
government.
Louisville Metro adopted its current comprehensive plan, known
as Cornerstone 2020, on June 15, 2000. Cornerstone 2020, which has a planning
timeframe of 2000 to 2020, provides the framework for Louisville and Jefferson
County’s land development regulations and policies (including the Land
Development Code). The document describes the community’s direction for future
development and growth. It also recommends policies and projects to achieve its
desired results.
As future community leaders, youth and young people will be
impacted by the updated plan that will guide our community's growth to
2040.

In an effort to bring awareness in assisting our local ecosystem
and the continual support of biodiversity, Brightside challenges and invites
residents of Louisville to get out on the first Saturday in
November and plant trees, flowers, and plants within the community.
We are encouraging everyone to plant in their own yard, neighborhood, at their
school, church, or place of employment or to join in the Brightside led
planting project.
Brightside will hold its fall planting event Saturday, November
5 in the Parkland neighborhood. At 9 a.m. volunteers will join Brightside, who
has partnered with the Division of Community Forestry, UPS, LG&E and The
Nature Conservancy at the corner of 26th & Virginia in front of Pleasant
View Missionary Baptist Church to plant approximately 120 trees on Virginia
Avenue from 26th to 28th Streets.
A limited supply of shovels and other tools will be provided by
Brightside, but volunteers are encouraged to bring their own tools. All ages
are invited to attend the event.
Planting in this area can improve the overall aesthetic for
businesses and residents, control storm water runoff, increase property value,
reduce urban heat island effect, improve air quality, and lower energy costs.

Planting Day, please click here or contact Brightside at 502-574-2613.
