The Spirit of Jefferson will return to Riverview Park in Southwest Louisville on Sunday, October 23rd! The Steamboat will set sail for two cruises leaving from Riverview Park (formerly the Greenwood Boat Docks at 8202 Greenwood Road).
This is a free event but remember that seating is limited for the cruises. To reserve your spot in advance, you can stop by Southwest Community Ministries at 8504 Terry Road during their regular business hours. A $5 minimum donation per seat is suggested to reserve your spot. Those wanting to attend can also board the day of the event on a first-come, first-served basis.
Cruises are at 1:30 pm at 4:00 pm with boarding beginning one half hour before each. Please contact the District 12 office at 502.574.1112 for more details or questions. We hope that you can attend this special event and help us to support Southwest Community Ministries.

Southwest Community Ministries is seeking a full-time Executive Director.
Overview
Accomplish the goals of the
Southwest Community Ministries. This includes, but is not limited to, informing
and advising the Southwest Community Ministries’ board and committees, as well
as outside committees, supervising executive staff, providing community
leadership, developing programs and seeking funds.
Job
Skills/Requirements:
Lead five staff members and lend support to an
extensive volunteer network at the Southwest Community Ministries.
Oversee all staff members on a daily basis, actively
work with bookkeeper to maintain financial accounting methods that
successfully meet and exceed routine auditing and sound financial
management principles
Serve as the primary representative of Southwest
Community Ministries with churches, government agencies, non-profits,
for-profits, and other organizations that serve the needs of members of
the community.

Early
LIHEAP Registration for Elderly and Disabled Individuals Begins Monday, October
3
Louisville, KY (September 27,
2016) - Home heating costs can be a large expense
for families in the winter, so Louisville Metro Department of Community
Services will begin accepting pre-registration heating assistance applications
on Monday, October 3, 2016. The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program
(LIHEAP) provides financial assistance to help income eligible
residents pay utility bills.
Pre-registration is for Jefferson County residents who meet the following
criteria:
- Fixed income within 130% of the federal poverty level
- Elderly (60 years or older) or disabled individuals
receiving Social Security, SSI, pension or Black Lung benefits
Applicants must be willing to provide the following documentation:
- Proof of all household income for the preceding month
(Food Stamp award letter, Social Security Award letter, pay stubs, etc. or
proof of $0 income. Note: Zero Income forms are available at the
Community Services office at 701 W. Ormsby Ave., Suite 201 or by clicking
here.)
- Proof of Social Security Number or Permanent Residence
card (Green Card) for each member of the household.
- Most current heating bill; or statement from your
landlord if heating expenses are included in your rent; or statement from
your utility company if you participate in a pre-pay electric program.
Please bring the account number and name on the account for all heating
fuel sources and electric.
Residents who meet the early registration requirements may apply at the
following locations during these specified times. No appointment is
necessary for this early registration phase; eligible individuals can
choose the most convenient site.

updates.
Individuals who are unable to apply for this program in person may send a
representative on their behalf. Simply provide the representative with a
hand-written note, dated and signed from the applicant, giving them permission
to handle their application for services. The representative will need to
provide the required documentation listed above for the applicant to apply for
assistance.

Human Services and by the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family
