As a community we need to remain committed to this level of paving for the next 10 years to ensure that the phrase “neglected roads” is a thing of the past. Good road conditions can and will have a positive impact on our local economy this is why we must strive to meet the necessary $22.4 million annual investment needed to address our road paving deficit.

The release of an environmental study for the proposed site of Louisville’s new Veterans Affairs hospital has been pushed back yet again, increasing questions about the long-delayed project with an estimated construction cost that has risen to $935 million.

Facing pressure from Metro Council and neighbors near the site off Brownsboro Road, the VA announced last October that it would conduct a legally required Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the property — more thorough than the previous environmental assessment released in 2014 — originally estimating its release in February 2016. Without explanation, that deadline was later pushed back to late June, and local VA officials said in July that despite the fact that the draft EIS already had been completed, they anticipated its release late this summer.

The Louisville Water Company (LWC) will begin a project to rehabilitate the Westport Road water storage tank at the beginning of October. Construction work is scheduled to last until the end of the year. Work will involve existing coatings removal and application of new coatings to the tank. The tank will be shrouded during the periods of paint removal and coating for containment.

The construction work and deliveries will be contained within road right-of-ways, LWC easements and property. The construction activities will likely result in some construction noise and general inconveniences to you. Efforts will be made to minimize these negative impacts on your area. Following construction, all disturbed areas will be restored.

KY 22 was closed on October 10 and will be closed for approximately two months. The roadway will be closed to through traffic between Goose Creek Road and Hurstbourne Parkway (mile points 2.7 to 3.6). Local traffic will still have access to the residences on either side of Little Goose Creek. All other traffic will be detoured via Goose Creek Road, Westport Road and Hurstbourne Parkway.

Contract crews will remove the existing culvert the week of October 3 and begin work on footers for the new structure.  The new culvert will be made of precast concrete structures that are fabricated off-site.  Delivery of these components to the project area is expected in mid-October.

An MSD project entitled Muddy Fork Force Main will soon cause the closure of Indian Hills Trail from River Road to River Bluff Road. The project will consist of installing a 20" Force main from the Muddy Fork Pump Station to the valve vault on the east side of Indian Hills Trail.  This work is scheduled to begin within the next week. Once the contractor starts and reaches Indian Hills Trail the road will be closed to through traffic. MSD anticipates the length of the project to be 6 weeks.

What is a Comprehensive Plan and why does Louisville have one?

A comprehensive plan establishes a framework to guide public and private decisions about future growth, preservation and changes within a local government. 

Louisville Metro adopted its current comprehensive plan, known as Cornerstone 2020, on June 15, 2000. Cornerstone 2020, which has a planning timeframe of 2000 to 2020, provides the framework for Louisville and Jefferson County’s land development regulations and policies (including the Land Development Code). The document describes the community’s direction for future development and growth. It also recommends policies and projects to achieve its desired results.

As future community leaders, you are the ones most impacted by the updated plan that will guide our community's growth to 2040 and we need to hear from you!

The Fall Community-Wide Cleanup will be taking place on Saturday, October 22nd, 2016 So mark your calendars now! Online registration will open on Monday,August 15th so be sure to sign up early. All cleanup teams will receive bags and gloves at no cost, and the first 5,000 volunteers to register will also receive a free t-shirt. 

Neighborhoods can hold their own cleanups at any point throughout the year and we can provide gloves and bags for each Neighborhood Cleanup. We will work with Solid Waste Management to have the collected litter bags picked up.
