Councilman Mulvihill and Mary Ellen Wiederwohl, Chief of Louisville Forward, visited with Professor Jenna Haugen and her Business Communications Students to listen to the pitches to bring IKEA to Louisville and to provide feedback for their presentations. Councilman Mulvihill and Mary Ellen Wiederwohl hope their feedback was valuable to the students' learning
experience and helped to introduce important considerations for their business
plans.

Recently, Councilman Mulvihill toured the Uspiritus campus with David Finke, Vice president of Residential Services. Uspiritus was founded in 2012 with the merger of Bellewood Home for Children and Brooklawn Child & Family Services, two organizations that had each been in operation for more than 160 years. In their beginnings, both grew from the desire of a committed few to nurture and provide for children who needed their help most. Through growth, change and ultimately partnership, the organizations that now form Uspiritus continue to uphold that philosophy in all they do to provide greater care for our most vulnerable children and families throughout the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

The International Union of Bricklayers
and Allied Craftworkers, International Masonry Institute, and Local 4 IN/KY
Louisville Chapter are pleased to announce the opening of our new training
facility located at 4441 Kiln Court Louisville Ky 40218. They have committed
to a nearly $250,000, three year budget that is 100% funded by our membership
without relying on taxpayer money. Their goal is to grow out of the 3000+
square foot building after three years into a much larger place and are very
excited about this new opportunity to train future generations of highly
skilled craft-workers in tile, terrazzo, brick, restoration, and refractory. They currently have a team of 5 who oversee the success of this program
with around 40 active apprentices and over 300 journeymen who all have free
access to the various training and certifications they offer. Their dozens of
signatory contractors benefit a great deal from all of this as well. This
is a first for Kentucky in the trowel trades.
Feel free to contact Dustin Reinstedler by phone with any
questions. 502-817-4126

If
you have any items that are not accepted at the Responsible Recycling event,
please plan to attend the FREE junk drop-off at Outer Loop this weekend.
A free bulk waste and junk drop-off event will be held on
Sunday, May 15, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Waste Management Outer Loop
Landfill, 2673 Outer Loop. Residents throughout Jefferson County may
drop off bulky items not accepted during regular garbage collection such as
appliances, furniture and mattresses.
The drop-off event is a partnership of Metro Public Works and
Waste Management of Kentucky. Residents are asked to separate metal items
from other junk so it can be recycled to conserve limited landfill space.
Items that will not be accepted during the drop-off event
include yard waste (grass, limbs, leaves, etc.), hazardous materials, paint,
tires and commercial trash.
The event is in addition to regular bulk waste disposal
available throughout the year at the Waste Reduction Center located at 636
Meriwether Avenue. In the year round service, up to three bulk items per
household are accepted free of charge during regular operating hours Tuesday
- Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Materials such as oil and lead-based paints, lawn fertilizers,
batteries and household chemicals may be taken to the Household Hazardous
Materials Collection Center, known as Haz Bin, at 7501 Grade Lane. The center
is open Wednesdays and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. There is no charge for
Louisville residents for Haz Bin services.

Councilman Mulvihill was on hand for the opening of the new exciting Penguin Exhibit on Thursday May 12. This exhibit of Australian Penguins will open to the public tomorrow May 14. Little Penguins are the smallest of all penguins. This species stands about a foot tall and weighs around two pounds. It lives in colonies along the southern coast of Australia, around the nearby island of Tasmania, and the entire coastline of New Zealand. Your Louisville Zoo is participating in an AZA Species Survival Program project to conserve the Little Penguin in partnership with the Taronga Zoo, Sydney, the Zoo and Aquarium association of Australia, New Zealand, and Pacific region, and the Government of Australia.
