April 27 marks Denim Day in the USA as a means to draw awareness to Sexual Assault.
A special recognition to Patti Barron for telling her story as a sexual assault survivor. Patti hid the act for years before coming forward, freeing her emotions and helping encourage others that have been shamed by sexual assault to come forward and honest with police and the public.
President Yates hopes this awareness campaign will help encourage those that have been sexually assaulted to come forward and know that there is healing, but also to bring awareness to our entire community to Own It by not allowing yourself or your friends to become a perpetrator of sexual assault. Stand up united to fight against Sexual Assault.

 Citing an effort to increase its ability to help small businesses and “buy local” more often, Metro Louisville announced today that it has added a new vendor portal on the Division of Purchasing’s page of the city website.
Local businesses interested in registering can submit information through the new portal. Louisville Metro agency buyers and Purchasing Division staff will be able to utilize the business information primarily when seeking purchasing opportunities below $20,000. Any purchases above $20,000 require, by state law, a competitive bid process.
In order for Louisville Metro to procure services and products, the business must be registered and compliant with the Revenue Commission and Human Relations Commission. Some common purchases by the city are construction, painting, roofing, pest control and a variety of business services.
Louisville Metro encourages and assists small business development and growth through the work of its Small Business Development staff and partnerships with other resource providers in the city.
Submitting a Vendor Interest Form is not a guarantee for doing business with Louisville Metro Government, nor is it a bid notification system. The portal is a method for presenting local business capabilities and qualifications directly to decision-makers across all Metro agencies.
To complete the Vendor Interest Form, local business owners should visit
https://louisvilleky.gov/government/management-budget/purchasing.
 Move Louisville, the city’s 20-year multi-modal plan, was released on April 14, 2016. The plan describes 16 priority projects and 8 priority policies to improve Louisville’s transportation network.
A 60-day public comment period for Move Louisville also began on April 14th. Metro encourages residents and businesses to review the plan and submit their thoughts and comments at https://louisvilleky.gov/government/advanced-planning/move-louisville.

Mayor Greg Fischer has launched his SummerWorks jobs program
for 2016 and is urging every company to hire or sponsor jobs for youth.
"We want it to be the business culture of our city that every company,
large and small, hires or sponsors summer jobs for youth," Fischer said.
New companies such as Humana and Kindred Healthcare are joining the effort
for 2016 and UPS and other companies are increasing their commitment. Also, a
new website - SummerWorks.org -- makes it easier for
youth, employers and supporters to sign up and be involved. See a short
video about the new website.
Working closely with Jefferson County Public Schools, Fischer
said there will be a stronger focus this year on placing students in jobs
that match up with what they are learning in school and jobs in the key
business sectors the city is focused on growing such as technology,
healthcare and advanced manufacturing.

 The “Run for the Roses” is right around the corner! And, the race is on to get those last-minute Kentucky Derby tickets!
BBB is warning those of you who want to attend the Kentucky Derby to beware of scam artists trying to fool you into buying fake Derby tickets!
The best way to avoid getting scammed is to deal with a business that you know is legitimate. You can check out businesses at bbb.org.
Also, just in case you don’t get what you signed up for, pay with a credit card so that you can dispute the charge.
And, be careful when you are using online auction sites, or sites like Craigslist. Scam artists often ask ticket seekers to send money through Western Union. BBB has had reports of ticket-buyers losing thousands of dollars this way. After you wire the money, you never get the tickets…and your money is GONE.
Here are some red flags for Craigslist scams:
Buyer is not local;
Misspellings and grammar errors in the response;
Person offering that Craigslist guarantees a transaction;
Use of Western Union for the transaction;
Seller offers use of an online escrow service.
For more tips, go to bbb.org or call 1-800-388-2222.
