Freedom Award: Mayor Greg Fischer has announced that George L. Burney Sr., a civil rights leader in Louisville for more than 60 years, is the 2016 recipient of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Freedom Award. The mayor will present the award at 5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 17 during the “Keepers of the Dream” event at the Kentucky Center. Read more.

Holiday delays garbage pick-up: There will be no garbage, junk, recycling or yard waste collection on Monday (Jan. 18) within the Urban Services District (former Louisville city limits) in observance of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day holiday. Details.
