It is very important for boards and commissions to be diverse and include representatives from all areas of the city. The Commission on Public Art is seeking a representative from southwest Louisville. To qualify, you must have an interest in art and be willing to serve a 4-year term.  The Neighborhood Institute is a leadership education program designed to equip neighborhood leaders with skills and resources needed to initiate positive change in the community through their neighborhood, homeowner, and condo associations. Classes meet every Tuesday, 6:00 - 8:30PM at Urban Design Studio (507 South Third Street) for 12 consecutive weeks (January 26th – April 12th), followed by a Graduation Celebration. Dinner is provided each week. There is no charge to attend but space is limited and advance registration is required.

 Starting December 26th, residents can bring their Christmas tree to the Southwest Government Center for disposal and recycling. Those who wish to recycle their trees must bring an appropriate container for the mulch, which performs particularly well for acid-loving plants such as azaleas and rhododendrons!

 Louie the Looker, our pedestrian safety mascot, is partnering with TARC for the 17th Annual Kids Design-a-Bus Contest. This year's theme is the name of our safety campaign: Look Alive Louisville. The idea is to promote safety for motorists, pedestrians and bicyclists. The contest is open to all elementary and middle school students in Jefferson, Oldham, Bullitt, Floyd and Clark counties.
The designs of twelve winners will be displayed on a TARC bus, and winners will be invited with their guardians to ride the bus in next year's Kentucky Derby Festival Republic Bank Pegasus Parade on Thursday, May 5th, 2016.  Home Sweet Home is a service provided through Harbor House, providing training for individuals with disabilities while helping seniors stay in their homes and fostering friendships. Standard cleaning services are provided, starting at $25 per hour (1 hour minimum and 4 hour maximum per visit). Services can include but are not limited to: sweeping, mopping, dusting, garbage removal and the like.
If the homeowner meets the requirements, cleaning services do qualify for payment under the Kentucky Department of Aging and Independent Living. To determine if you qualify, call 266-6084.
