Little Loomhouse

Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon

llh

The Lou Tate Foundation Board of Directors celebrated with the Little Loomhouse volunteers at a Luncheon on Sunday, December 6.   Councilman Dan Johnson joins Lou Tate Foundation Administrator Caitlin Sollee, Staff Artist/Teacher, Michelle Amos, Preservation Chair, Melissa Amos-Jones, incoming Foundation President Sara Reyna-Byler, D-21 Legislative Aide, Bryan Mathews and Leslie Clements, outgoing Foundation President at the luncheon .

The group gathered in front of the newly installed rock retaining wall behind the middle cabin, Wisteria.  This is part of an ongoing stabilization project for this cabin.  The original Brick cistern was incorporated into the design of the wall.  Wisteria will receive additional repairs now that the retaining wall and french drain have been completed.  Landscaping will be completed in the Spring of 2016.

The funds for this project were part of ongoing fundraising efforts designated for the preservation of the cabins built in the late 1800's.  Partial funding was provided through District 21 NDF funds.  The Lou Tate Foundation, Inc. is a 501 (c) (3) not-for-profit corporation operating the weaving and textile arts and education cabin complex on Kenwood Hill Road.  It is a Louisville Landmark, a Kentucky State Historic Site and on the National Register of Historic Places.

LMPD Holiday Tips

LMPD and park personnel are increasing patrols in the Louisville area as criminals seek to take advantage of shoppers, joggers and moviegoers during the holiday season. It is not unusual to have an uptick in crime, especially with car break-ins, but according to LMPD criminals are getting more sophisticated. They're not working individually, but instead in groups, targeting specific areas.

Americana's Winter Festival Dec. 18

is around the corner and we need your help to make the evening special for hundreds of refugee and immigrant families. We're looking for volunteers to help with set-up and tear-down (1pm-5pm and 8pm-9:30pm), but also during the festivities to supervise crafts and games (5pm-8:30pm).

We'll also need help collecting toys and gifts for 400-500 young refugee and immigrant participants (infants to high school). More than often, the present they receive during the Winter Festival is the only *new* gift they receive all year. If you want to hold a drive or give a toy or two, please look to our website for more information. If you'd like to give a monetary donation that will be used solely to buy gifts, we've set up a fundraiser on Crowdrise for your convenience!
