Breast
Cancer Awareness Month
 On
Thursday, President Tandy was joined by CW Vicki Aubrey Welch, other Metro
Council Members, Council staff and representatives from the American Cancer
Society and the James Graham Brown Cancer Center to encourage women and men to
get the appropriate screening during the month.
The Louisville
Skyline now has an additional color to serve as an important reminder for women
during this month. The Historic City Hall Clock Tower at Sixth and Jefferson is
now showing pink as a reminder that October is Breast Cancer Awareness month.

GE is returning its Zoneline heating and air conditioning line
to Appliance Park! The new line will require 100 operators, including 75
new hires. The best candidates for these jobs, which start at $15.51 per hour,
are individuals with Certified Production Technician training, or previous
manufacturing experience.
The CPT training is available at no charge through Kentucky
Manufacturing Career Center, and successful completion puts individuals first
in line for the jobs at GE, as well as other manufacturers across the region.
New classes start
Nov. 2 in Louisville with mandatory orientation sessions in October. For
more information, call the Career Center at 276-9711 ext. 4001 and ask about
the upcoming Certified Production Technician Certificate (CPT) classes.

A free bulk
waste and junk drop-off event for all Jefferson County residents will be held
on Sunday, November
1, from 9
a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Waste Management Outer Loop Landfill, 2673 Outer Loop.
Now is the time to get rid of bulky items not accepted by regular garbage
collection such as appliances, furniture and mattresses. See what is and is not allowed here.

This class is aimed at teaching families of potentially addicted
individuals how to help seek treatment and administer the drug Narcan that can
save the lives of overdosing individuals. This class will be held at the
Southwest Regional Library.

a free domestic violence workshop Saturday, Oct. 17, 2015, at Briargate
Presbyterian Church, located at 2100 Upper Hunters Trace. The program is 10
a.m. to 2 p.m. Lunch is included.

$20 family golfing special offered during
October weekends
“Golftober” is back! Louisville Metro Parks and Recreation
will offer an affordable family golfing package at its nine golf courses each
weekend in October.
For only $20, a family of up to four members can play 9 holes at
any Metro Parks course. The $20 includes greens and carts fees, and families
can take advantage of the deal after 4:30 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays and
Sundays during October.
The special also applies to the newly-opened “Footgolf” course
at Bobby Nichols Golf Course. Metro Parks operates nine municipally-owned
golf courses that are challenging to everyone from beginners to scratch
golfers.
