It’s that time of year again! The scramble will be held at the Iroquois Golf Course, on Saturday, August 29, 2015. Proceeds from the Light-up Riverport Golf Scramble will be used to pay the annual costs of Riverport street lighting and the LMPD and EMS substation. This annual event helps keep our employees safe and our facilities secure! Breakfast will be served beginning at 6:30am followed by a shotgun start at 7:00am. When the last team returns from play we’ll enjoy a Texas Roadhouse lunch and a presentation of trophies and door prizes. We hope to have 30 participating teams again this year! We only have 14 as of today. Please register your players and teams as soon as possible at www.myriverport.com. Player names, teams and payment status will appear on our website until the event. In an effort to better educate the community about the risk and warning signs of stroke, Sts. Mary and Elizabeth Hospital will host a free seminar entitled, “Stroke Care—Risks, Prevention and Acute Treatment,” on September 17, 2015 from 7-8 p.m. Ajmal Bangash, MD, and Kelly Martin, APRN, will discuss stroke risk factors and recommendations for the prevention of stroke. Attendees will be able to learn ways to reduce the potential risk of having a stroke. Dr. Bangash has practiced neurology since 2002 and now focuses on inpatient care, specifically stroke care at Sts. Mary & Elizabeth. Martin is a Stroke Certified Registered Nurse (SCRN) through the American Board of Neuroscience Nursing. Both Dr. Bangash and Martin have practiced together since 2010. “Stroke is the number five killer in the state of Kentucky. If we want to change that statistic, we need to better educate our community about modifiable risk factors for stroke,” said Dr. Bangash. “This seminar is a great opportunity to share valuable information in an effort to reduce the occurrence of stroke.” Other topics featured in the seminar will include: what to do when having a stroke, identifying the symptoms of a stroke and responding quickly. The seminar is free and open to the public and will be held in the Assembly Room at Sts. Mary and Elizabeth Hospital (1850 Bluegrass Ave.) To register, call Beth Engler at 502.361.6700.
