Councilman David James, along with a few other Council Members were recognized at the Metro Council meeting on June 25th for their courageous participation in the Firefighter Training For A Day.

During this training, Council Members were suited in actual fire fighting gear and put to the test for their courage and endurance. This test allowed the council to see what it takes to be a firefighter on a day to day bases. A job that is a lot harder and strenuous than one could truly imagine. This training also allowed Council Members to see just how heavy the gear really is.

This award was given by the dedicated Fire Personnel that serve and protect us every day.

Congratulations Councilman David James. Job Well Done!

For Teens Who Love To Sing

rthur56i

The A Cappella Festival of Kentuckiana will hold its 3rd Annual one-day camp for young singers (ages 13 to 19) on Saturday, July 25, 2015. Check-In will begin at The Clifton Center (one of the sponsors of the event), located at 2117 Payne St, Louisville, KY, at 8:30 a.m., with rehearsals beginning at 9 a.m.

At 7:30 p.m., young singers will star in a show with award-winning choruses and singers. This free concert is open to family, friends and the entire community.

This event is a wonderful opportunity for teens to sing and learn about four-part a cappella harmony under the direction of skilled chorus directors and quartet singers. In just one day, students will experience rehearsals and coaching with local experts. The day will include vocal music education including harmony basics, singing technique, choreography, and performance skills.  Perhaps the most popular aspect of the Festival is the opportunity to meet like-minded young people.

The Festival is sponsored by the Pride of Kentucky Chorus and The Thoroughbred Chorus, which sing in the barbershop style. As America's unique vocal art form, barbershop singing is a fine training ground for all types of a cappella singing.  The unique sound of barbershop can be applied to all types of music -- contemporary hits, show tunes, country music, oldies, spirituals, patriotic music, and more.

Registration is currently open online at www.prideofkentuckychorus.org/festival, or you can email acappellakentuckiana@gmail.com to request information and registration forms.

The $25 registration fee includes sheet music, audio learning tracks, and all events on the day of the festival (including music instruction, meals and snacks, and a T-shirt.  Needs-based scholarships are available.  Deadline to register is July 17, 2015.
