I have heard from many constituents who are concerned about the dramatic increase in their property's valuation from the Property Valuation Administrator (PVA). As a result of these calls I requested that the PVA come before the Government Accountability and Ethics committee.
PVA officials told us at the May 6 meeting that the characteristics of each residential property are very important in the reassessment process. Also, they have readily admitted that erroneous or missing information may cause inaccurate assessments. Therefore, they rely on an appeal process to get the assessment for Jefferson County’s 260,000 residential properties as accurately as possible.
