Medical Debt Relief: 6 Month Review
 During the January 13, 2026 Council Work Session, the Office of Vice Mayor Dan Wu provided a 6 month update of the medical debt relief initiative, previously approved by Council.
The updates included an overview of the program, details of the first wave of debt abolishment, available demographic data, a financial breakdown, and testimonials from impacted residents.

Junior Achievement of the Bluegrass Visits LFUCG

On January 16, 2026, a number of future leaders visited the LFUCG to learn about their local government up-close. They spent time with council members & staff to become more familiar with the legislative branch and all that our Council does to keep Lexington running. Always special to have our youth participate!
2026 Council Budget Retreat
 On January 22, 2026, council members participated in their annual budget retreat, reviewing past priorities, current funding, and future projections. Thoroughly reviewing and approving the budget is one of Council’s most important responsibilities.
Council Goes to Campus
 On February 5, 2026, leaders from the University of Kentucky welcomed members of the Urban County Council to campus for a number of wide-ranging conversations.
Discussions covered housing needs, technology changes, and Lexington’s growing campus community. The relationship between the University and the City is a special one, and making time for these conversations matters. Working together on the issues that affect Lexington residents remains a priority.
Public Input Sought: Draft Digital Accessibility Plan

Hundreds of Lexington residents shared their experiences with internet access, devices, and digital skills in last year’s community survey, helping shape the city’s draft Digital Accessibility Plan.

2026 St. Patrick's Parade and Festival: Entries Open
 The 2026 Alltech Lexington St. Patrick’s Parade and Festival will return to downtown Lexington on Saturday, March 14, offering a full day of music, dance, and Irish cultural programming. This year’s celebration expands to include a new Friday evening event to kick off the weekend.
New in 2026: Lexington St. Patrick’s Eve LIVE! Kickoff Concert
Festivities will begin on Friday, March 13, with a kickoff concert at the Lyric Theatre. This new event will feature a lineup of local, national, and international performers celebrating Irish music and culture. Additional details regarding performers and ticketing will be announced later in January.
Festival and parade activities on Saturday will begin at 10:45 a.m. with the traditional Blessing of the Keg at Henry A. Tandy Centennial Plaza. The ceremony will open a free, public festival featuring live music from pipe bands and local performers, Irish dance groups, and regional food and craft vendors. The Alltech Lexington St. Patrick’s Parade will step off at 1:00 p.m. and proceed down Main Street.
Applications are now open for groups and organizations interested in participating in one of Lexington’s longest-running civic traditions. Marching bands, community and school groups, local businesses, and other organizations are invited to apply.
