On October 19, Council held a Public Input Expo on the topic of transportation. Over 100 residents and community members from across the city attended to learn, discuss, and share their vision for transportation in Lexington.

Public Input Opportunity
Council scheduled a Zone Change Public Hearing on November 12, 2024 at 6 p.m. in Council Chambers. The hearing will be for property at 421 Price Road in District 2, to rezone approximately 16 acres from a single family residential zone to a mobile home park zone. Members of the public can participate in the hearing in-person or follow along via LexTV Livestream.

The second round of grants through the Lex Grow Trees initiative is officially open! In the first cycle, we received 22 applications and awarded nearly $500,000 to help grow and sustain Lexington's beautiful tree canopy. Now it's your turn! Grants will be awarded just in time for the spring 2025 planting season.

In honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Mayor Gorton recently presented GreenHouse17 with a proclamation, which was accepted by their Executive Director, Darlene Thomas. GreenHouse17 is a remarkable organization dedicated to ending intimate partner violence. They are located on a beautiful 40-acre farm in the 12th District, and provide nature-based healing, fresh produce, and job training for survivors. Thank you to GreenHouse17 and Darlene Thomas for your tireless work!

Discover how to capture and preserve the untold stories of Lexington’s historic Black hamlets. This hands-on training, presented by A Sense of Place: Remembering and Celebrating Lexington's Historic Black Hamlets, is perfect for community members, and storytellers who want to learn oral history techniques and especially for those who have a rich legacy with connection to Fayette County's historic rural black hamlets/towns. The training will be held on Wednesday, November 20 at 6 p.m. at the Lexington History Museum. This event is free and refreshments will be provided.

Festival Latino was originally planned for September, but had to be postponed due to the severe weather produced from Hurricane Helene. After careful consideration, we are excited to announce that the festival has been officially rescheduled and will now take place on Saturday, Nov. 9, 2024 from 2 – 10 p.m. at Masterson Station Park Fairgrounds. Join us to celebrate with authentic Latino music, food, culture and community in a 1-day event! We’re looking forward to an incredible day filled with festivities and entertainment. We hope you will join us.

November 29, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m., Redwood School
The annual Gobble Grease Toss is a partnership between the City of Lexington, the University of Kentucky Center for Applied Energy Research (UK CAER), Redwood School and Kelley Green Biofuel. Every year, Lexington residents recycle hundreds of gallons of cooking oil to keep it out of the landfill and bring attention to the harm caused by pouring cooking oil down the drain. Recycle your Thanksgiving grease this year!
