Overview of the Kentucky OSH Program 8:30 AM - 11:30 AM This course discusses the obligation to provide a safe and healthy workplace, free from recognized hazards. Topics of discussion include the operations of the Kentucky Occupational Safety and Health Program, including enforcement and voluntary compliance services (KYSAFE).
Hazard Communication 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM This course explains the requirements related to an employee's "right-to-know" about the hazards of chemicals to which he/she is exposed on the job. Attendees will learn about the development and implementation of the required hazard communication program, container labeling, safety data sheets (SDS), trade secrets, and employee training.
Personal Protective Equipment 8:30 AM - 11:30 AM This course provides an overview of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), as covered under the 29 CFR 1910.132-138 standard. It is intended for individuals who may be required to use PPE while performing their assigned work duties. Topics include an explanation of the PPE standards, how to properly use and care for PPE, and the limitations of PPE. Guidance will also be provided on how to perform the required PPE hazard assessment for each job in the workplace.
Injury Illness Recordkeeping 12:30 PM - 4:30 PM (with OSHA Training Institute / Eastern Kentucky University earned CEUs) This course is designed for the person who maintains injury and illness records including the forms 300, 301, and 300A. The regulations and guidelines for recordkeeping will be discussed, as well as the compliance directive Kentucky OSH Compliance officers use to evaluate records. A recordkeeping example workshop will be part of the course, time permitting.
Basic Electrical Safety 8:30 AM - 11:30 AM This course covers the basic requirements surrounding the approval, installation, and use of electrical equipment and devices. The course is built around OSHA standards found in 1910.303 to .305. Discussions will include OSHA and industry standards as they relate to the installation of electrical equipment, commonly cited approval and installation violations, an overview of the equipment approval process, cord marking requirements, and basic hazards found in commonly made electrical wiring issues. Involves group-based and hands-on learning activities, including flexible cord marking designation.
Excavation and Trenching 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM This course considers provisions under 1926, Subpart C and Subpart P, related to trenching and excavation safety. The class will review site preparation, opening and working in an excavation, and requirements for employee protection. Sample Emergency Action Plan and Daily Excavation Checklists are provided. Note: Attendees will not become a “competent person” from only attending this course.
Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM (with OSHA Training Institute / Eastern Kentucky University earned CEUs) (Lunch 12-1) This course covers the development and implementation of Exposure Control Plans (ECP) for healthcare facilities. Course topics include understanding the OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Standard, determining potential exposure and methods of control, developing an ECP, vaccinations, exposure incidents, training, and record keeping. Upon completion, students will have the ability to take a step-by-step approach in developing an ECP for their healthcare facility while utilizing the OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Standard as a reference.
