The Chandler/Turner Scholarship Fund, Inc. is hosting a “Gospel Concert” in celebration of its 25th year anniversary. This organization honors the legacy of the parents of this family-run nonprofit. James and Ellen Chandler believed in education and instilled it into their children. The eldest female sibling, Teola Tillman inspired the family to offer scholarships for African American youth in the greater Kansas City area. In celebration of operating this long, including 10 years as a nonprofit, the organization is inviting the public to be a part of this effort by purchasing a ticket and attending a “Gospel Concert.”
The featured artist will be the internationally renowned singer LeVelle, a Kansas City-born and bred singer of gospel and R&B. LeShea Wright, a local artist known for Gospel and Jazz. The Boys and Girls Choir, who are known all around Kansas City for their melodious gospel concerts.
All three of these dynamic acts support the vision and mission of the Chandler/Turner Scholarship Fund. Tickets are $50 and all proceeds go to offering scholarships to community African American youth now and in the future. This is an all-volunteer organization, so besides the cost of doing business, the funds go directly to scholarships. Scholarships awarded are up to $2000 per student. Since the inception of the nonprofit status, in 2014, $84,000 has been awarded to 78 students. The United Way Catalyst Fund has underwritten this event in their effort to support minority-run and minority-serving organizations.
This event will be held:
June 1, 2024
Reception @ 4:30 PM
Concert @ 5:30 PM
Performing Arts Building of the Kansas City Kansas Community College
7250 State Ave. Kansas City, Kansas 66112.

Don’t Throw Money in the Trash!
In 2023, illegally dumped tires, appliances, and mattresses, and litter, such as discarded beer bottles, fast food containers, cigarette butts, and other trash containers cost the Unified Government, and by extension, Kansas City, KS residents over $835,000. This was an unnecessary expense that would have been better spent on needed services in our community. Trash may be worthless, but it costs money. Dispose of your trash properly. Don’t throw away your hard-earned tax dollars!
How you can help:
Organize a community or neighborhood litter pick up.
Contact Livable Neighborhoods at livableneighborhoods@wycokck.org and we can provide you with trash bags and let you know how to get the bags picked up when they are full.
Adopt-A-Spot!

See Something, Say Something.
If you notice illegal dumping in your neighborhood, report it to 311 ASAP! After you report it to 311, contact Livable Neighborhoods and we can help coordinate efforts from Property Maintenance Compliance and Community Policing to provide enforcement and support in that area.
