Public Input Invited on Updated Land Bank Policy
During our most recent Neighborhood & Community Development Standing Committee (March 4), the UG presented proposed changes to the Land Bank Policy. With a total of 4,297 land bank parcels available, the changes seek to address community concerns regarding the number of vacant parcels owned by the UG as well as increase the current tax base.
Following an extensive outreach process, the proposed policy would allow for yard extensions for neighboring properties for residents and business owner and incorporate the use of land bank parcels for gardens and urban farms. The community is invited to attend the Monday, April 1 Neighborhood & Community Development Standing Committee at 5PM to share their thoughts on the updated policy.

Don’t Throw Money in the Trash!
In 2023, illegally dumped tires, appliances, and mattresses, and litter, such as discarded beer bottles, fast food containers, cigarette butts, and other trash containers cost the Unified Government, and by extension, Kansas City, KS residents over $835,000. This was an unnecessary expense that would have been better spent on needed services in our community. Trash may be worthless, but it costs money. Dispose of your trash properly. Don’t throw away your hard-earned tax dollars!
How you can help:
Organize a community or neighborhood litter pick up.
Contact Livable Neighborhoods at livableneighborhoods@wycokck.org and we can provide you with trash bags and let you know how to get the bags picked up when they are full.
Adopt-A-Spot!

See Something, Say Something.
If you notice illegal dumping in your neighborhood, report it to 311 ASAP! After you report it to 311, contact Livable Neighborhoods and we can help coordinate efforts from Property Maintenance Compliance and Community Policing to provide enforcement and support in that area.

Veterans Treatment Court (VTC) provides a treatment-based alternative to veterans to receiving "standard" sentence or diversion for their legal circumstances by offering intensive mental health and substance abuse treatment and services through the VA.
VTC's Veteran Mentors bridge the gap between “Legal Requirements” & “Treatment Needs”---assisting participants navigate the course as there will be challenges along the way. The Mentor must be respectful, empathetic, and dependable while not being friend, counselor, or therapist. There is a time commitment involving a bi-weekly courts appearance with participants and aiding as a “resource” so as to reduce stress that can easily be caused by distractions of life.
