Big Week in Public Safety Recruitment
This week, Human Resources and our public safety agencies are hosting several different recruitment opportunities. Tomorrow, the KCKPD has testing for its upcoming police academy. On Thursday, the Sheriff's Office is offering walk-in testing for correctional specialists and deputies at a new time at Pierson Community Center. Later this week, the KCKFD will offer applicants a preview of the physical agility test as part of their recruitment efforts for their upcoming April academy. Help us spread the word to your neighbors, friends and family who may be considering a career in public safety!

Municipal Building ATM Relocating!
In an effort to better serve our customers, staff from UMB will be moving the ATM machine from the ground floor of the Municipal Building to the 2nd floor Municipal Court waiting area on Thursday, January 18. The Municipal Court is a high “cash use” department, and we believe this change will better assist our customers by making cash more readily accessible, without having to leave the area in search of the ATM. The ATM is still available for use by staff – it will just require a stop on the second floor.

2023 Transit Year-in-Review
In 2023, UG Transportation provided 174,308 passengers fixed-route transit services. The highest performing bus routes are the 102 Central and 103 3rd Street/Fairfax. On average, 14,526 passengers travel monthly on the various fixed routes across Wyandotte County.
The UG also provided Paratransit services to 34,544 ADA and seniors passengers and 6492 passengers for microtransit services. In total, the UG transported 215,344 passengers during 2023 and we look forward to increasing ridership demand.
Complete the Transit Ridership Survey by Friday, January 19
The Unified Government Transportation Department is undergoing a Comprehensive Service Analysis (CSA) with KCATA. The analysis will allow the UGT to pinpoint underperforming routes and/or services and have the chance to poll transit users about their experiences with the current services. A ridership survey is now available in English and Spanish through Friday, January 19, 2024. Please complete and share the survey with others (links below). The data will enable the UG to suggest cost reductions, increase effectiveness and efficiency, and better support planned and desired development.

In light of the ongoing extreme cold conditions, Waste Management has announced a revised collection schedule for residential trash and recycling this week. Starting Tuesday, January 16, all routes will experience a one-day delay.
This delay is an ongoing measure to protect waste management professionals from the extreme cold Kansas City, Kansas, is experiencing. The commitment to driver safety remains a top priority, especially in these challenging weather conditions. The cold stretch has caused a unique challenge, as Waste Management drivers do trash and recycling collection manually in KCK. Unlike automated cart systems in other areas, KCK’s method requires drivers to leave their vehicles to collect items, increasing their exposure to the harsh weather.
For residents who experienced missed collections last week, please keep your items at the street or curb edge. Waste Management is working to recover them this week. Residents are encouraged to report any missed collections to 3-1-1, which will aid in coordinating the recovery effort. Keep reading.

Tips & Tricks
The UG is live with the Workday Payroll, Absence and Time Tracking modules!
Pay
2024 paycheck statements are located in Workday. Use the Pay app in Workday online or on the UG Workday mobile app to view or print your paycheck statements, manage your payroll elections and tax deductions/withholdings, and more!
“It’s pretty simple.” - David
Absence
Using the Absence app in Workday, all UG employees can view their leave balances in Workday and are encouraged to double check their time off banks and any leave taken during this transition into Workday. Most employees (except police and fire) will also use the Absence app to request time off.
Training
There are current and upcoming Workday training opportunities for all employees and for supervisors – view a training video or sign up for an in-person or online training using the Learning app.
“Single time entry is a breeze. It’s quick and easy…love it, love it, love it.” – Janice
Workday Drive is now easier to access using the Drive app – the job aids are stored in Drive and provide information and step-by-step instructions on completing various tasks in Workday.
“Workday is a step in the right direction regarding employee data accessibility.” - Shane
Other Testimonials

“I love how Workday manages budget transfers. It empowers the user departments and the process is faster and more efficient. Workday simplified purchasing supplies and technology equipment for our office. (The) Workday integration with Staples and Dell is fantastic.” – Reed
“Bill pay with Workday is night and day compared to prior system we used, that starts with “Cay” and ends with “enta.” - Erick
