Please follow this link to provide insight that could potentially be used to guide the national portion of the real estate licensing exam accredited by ARELLO.
Broker Cooperation Agreements
The Commission has noticed an increasing number of Broker Cooperation Agreements received by the Commission are not being completed in compliance with Kansas law and not being submitted timely. This article serves as a reminder for licensees doing transactions using this agreement.
An individual licensed in another state in good standing (known as a foreign licensee) may list or sell Kansas commercial real estate without obtaining a Kansas real estate license by cooperating with a Kansas supervising broker or branch broker. This agreement is only applicable for transactions involving commercial real estate for which the present use is other than one to four residential units or for agricultural purposes. A complete Broker Cooperation Agreement must be submitted to KREC within five business days. The following requirements shall be included:
- The real estate is not improved with a single family residence.
- The foreign licensee agrees to comply with all applicable laws and regulations of the state of Kansas.
- All escrow funds concerning the commercial real estate must be held in Kansas in the trust account of the Kansas supervising or branch broker who is the party to this agreement or by a third-party escrow agent located in Kansas.
- The parties agree to keep each other informed of all showings and negotiations and to furnish each other copies of all documents related to any commercial real estate transaction required by Kansas law to be retained.
Read K.S.A. 58-3077 in its entirety to ensure all requirements are met and consult an attorney with legal questions.

- Be at least 18 years of age

- Graduating early? Until you have been provided your diploma from your educational institution, you are not eligible to pursue pre-licensure.
- Provide fingerprints for a background check
July 1, 2026, License Expiration Date Reminder
The next license expiration date is July 1, 2026. Only IF this is your license expiration date, complete your renewal on time to avoid a late fee. We recommend logging in now to ensure access to the new Public Portal system.
All licensees receive a courtesy renewal reminder email 45 days prior to license expiration. If you did not get an email, your email address is likely invalid with KREC. Instructions to complete all online processes are available here. Most renewal questions can be answered by reviewing the FAQ section of the KREC website.
License Status: What Does It Mean?
When verifying a license using the Public Portal, several different statuses could appear next to a licensee’s name. The status of a license indicates the licensee’s ability to provide real estate services in Kansas. License status classifications include the following options:
-
Active – The license is currently affiliated with a broker and the licensee may perform licensed real estate activities in Kansas.
-
Inactive – The license is not affiliated with a broker. The license must be renewed to prevent expiration and the licensee is not permitted to transact real estate, including receiving a referral fee.
-
Expired – The licensee previously held a valid license but did not renew by the expiration date. The license is no longer valid and the licensee may not perform licensed real estate activities in Kansas.
-
Expired – Renewable (Active) – The license is within the six‑month statutory grace period and remains affiliated with a broker. Renewal is still possible but the licensee may not perform licensed real estate activities in Kansas while in this status.
-
Expired – Renewable (Inactive) – The license is within the six‑month grace period but is not affiliated with a broker. Renewal is still possible but the licensee is not permitted to transact real estate, including receiving a referral fee.
-
Expired – KAPA Review (Active) – The license is subject to review by the Commission under the Kansas Administrative Procedure Act (KAPA). The license is in active status pending review.
-
Expired – KAPA Review (Inactive) – The license requires Commission review under KAPA. The license is inactive during the review process.
-
Pending – A license application has been submitted and is under review. Approval has not yet been granted.
-
Denied – The Commission has reviewed the application and determined that licensure will not be granted.
-
Suspended – The Commission has imposed a tdisciplinary action prohibiting the licensee from performing licensed real estate activities in Kansas while in this status.
-
Revoked – The Commission has permanently revoked the license as a result of disciplinary action. The individual is no longer authorized to perform licensed real estate activities in Kansas.
-
Withdrawn – The applicant or licensee has voluntarily withdrawn the application or renewal request.
-
Obsolete – The license is no longer valid for use. The licensee has likely obtained a new license that supersedes the obsolete license.
A licensee may also be affiliated with a company on a referral basis. However “referral” is not a license status recognized by the Commission. Affiliation with a referral office does not automatically place a license on inactive status. The license is still considered Active and the licensee must complete the 12-hour CE requirement and complete the renewal process to avoid license forfeiture. An active license is required to receive a referral fee. A licensee’s membership status with a trade association may differ from the license status recognized by the Commission.
Disciplinary Actions
Revocations, suspensions, and aggregate fines of $500 or greater issued to licensees, and any withdrawal of course approval issued to approved schools between 04/15/26 – 06/09/26.
