Happy Holidays from KREC!
Season’s greetings to you and yours, from all of us at the Commission.
License Status and Affiliation Changes
Thinking of changing an active license to inactive? Login to your Public Portal account and follow the instructions in the Licensee change section here to remove existing affiliations and change a license status.
A licensee cannot perform activities requiring a Kansas real estate license while on inactive status (this includes receiving compensation for referrals). An inactive licensee must renew a license prior to the license expiration date.
As a reminder, the Kansas Real Estate Commission (KREC) and the Association of REALTORS® are two separate entities. A licensee who is also a REALTOR® should report contact information and status changes to both KREC and the REALTOR® Association.
Kansas Land and Military Installation Protection Act
The Kansas Attorney General’s office asked that we inform licensees of the following information. Pursuant to Sub. Bill for Senate Bill 9, any foreign principal subject to this law who owns or acquires any interest in real property within 100 miles of any military installation in Kansas or an adjacent state must register that interest with the Attorney General within 90 days of acquiring such interest or the effective date of the law, whichever is later. Only foreign principals from the following countries are required to complete this form:
- People's Republic of China, including the Hong Kong special administrative region
-
Republic of Cuba
-
Islamic Republic of Iran
-
Democratic People's Republic of Korea
-
Russian Federation
-
Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela
If you suspect that one of these entities may hold, may have acquired, or plan to acquire an interest in real property please submit a report to the Attorney General’s office here.
January 1, 2026, License Expiration Date Reminder
The next license expiration date, January 1, 2026, falls on a holiday and the KREC office is closed. Only IF this is your license expiration date, complete your renewal now to avoid a late fee and unnecessary stress.
All licensees receive a courtesy renewal reminder email 45 days prior to license expiration. If you did not get an email, your email address is likely invalid with KREC. Instructions to complete all online processes are available here. Most renewal questions can be answered by checking the FAQ section of the KREC website.

Employee Spotlight
Breanna Lindstrom has been a Real Estate Specialist - Investigator with KREC since September 2025. She entered the real estate industry in 2015, earned her license in 2016, and launched her own transaction coordination business in 2017. While supporting hundreds of Kansas transactions each year, Breanna developed a deep appreciation for accuracy and all things compliance. Before joining KREC, she worked in transaction management and operations, where she focused on improving processes, implementing systems, and helping agents understand their regulatory responsibilities. Breanna also studied criminal justice in college, originally planning to become a homicide investigator, which strengthened her long-standing interest in investigative work and statutory analysis. She brings that experience to her real estate investigative work, approaching each case with precision and genuine interest in how policy meets real-world practice. When she's not (happily) buried in case files, Breanna enjoys playing guitar, hanging out with her family, and passionately defending her self-proclaimed title as the world's biggest fan of 1960s music.

Lisbeth has a soft spot in her heart for older homes (built prior to 1930) and has focused the majority of her remodeling efforts on revitalizing these homes. She is an artist (with a focus on ceramics), teaches meditation, and loves spending time outdoors with her husband, family and friends.

Military Licensure Exemption
Cyberfraud causes significant financial loss and is often difficult or impossible to recover from, particularly when real estate is involved. Across the U.S. there have been examples in which criminals sell vacant or unoccupied property they do not own using fake identification, making the fraud hard to detect before funds are distributed.
While real estate scams are not new, awareness is the best protection. Watch for these potential red flags from a seller:
- Refuses a For Sale sign
- Will not meet in person or by video (email/text only)
- Claims to be out of state or country
- Requires cash transactions
- Lists below market value
- Pushes for a fast sale or closing
- Uses a licensee outside the property’s market area
- Waives standard due diligence, such as earnest money
- Pressures the licensee to complete the deal
- Requests a remote closing with a remote notary
Work closely with the closing company to verify the seller’s identity and ownership. The FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) is a good source for reporting cyber-enabled crime. Suspected land or cyber fraud should be reported to the FBI at www.ic3.gov.
Disciplinary Actions
Revocations, suspensions, and aggregate fines of $500 or greater issued to licensees, and any withdrawal of course approval issued to approved schools between 10/03/25 – 12/12/25.
