September 1 License Expiration Date Reminder
This year, September 1 falls on a holiday, a Monday, and the KREC office is closed. If this is your license expiration date, complete your renewal early to avoid a late fee and unnecessary stress.
- Check your expiration date by conducting a search on the License Search page or checking your pocket card.
- Complete your Continuing Education (CE). We recommend at least five days prior to expiration date.
- Submit your renewal application by logging in to your Public Portal account.
- Check your email! Your license renewal is complete when you receive a confirmation email.
All licensees receive a courtesy renewal reminder email 45 days prior to license expiration. If you did not get an email, your email address is likely invalid with KREC. Login to your Public Portal account to update your information. Instructions to complete all online processes are available here.
Q and A: License Renewal
Do I need to take CE to renew? Yes, 12 hours of CE are required to renew to active status, including a 3-hour Kansas Required Core. CE is not required to renew to inactive status but hours must be made up prior to reactivation. You may begin your online renewal application prior to completing CE.
How do I know how many CE hours I've taken? Search for your record, select your license, then click the Continuing Education tab to view your CE. Hours for past renewal cycles are not displayed. You can also view your CE by logging into your Public Portal account.
How do I renew my license? Login to the Public Portal, select the My Records tab, then click Renew License next to your license record.
My license is inactive, do I still need to renew? Yes, inactive licenses must be renewed to avoid expiration and a late fee. The fee is $125 for salesperson and $175 for brokers.
How do I know if my renewal was processed? You will receive a renewal confirmation email with an updated pocket card within 48 hours of submission. If you do not receive confirmation, your renewal might be on hold. Contact KREC for more information.
Pre License Application Process
Do you know someone interested in obtaining a Kansas real estate license? KREC should be the first stop for anyone as they begin the licensing process. Please direct any interested individuals to the Salesperson or Broker checklists offered by KREC.
Prior to enrollment in a pre-license course, the individual should obtain a PL number from KREC and provide it to the school. This new system is designed to identify specific requirements with a series of questions to guide individuals through the application process. The applicant receives direction for next steps based on the information provided to KREC. Following the steps in the checklists helps streamline the application process.
