Pearson VUE Update for Pre-License Educators
Effective June 11, 2024, the state exam outline and Pearson VUE candidate handbook, located here, were updated to reflect changes approved at the December 2023 Commission meeting. Changes to the Pearson VUE exam forms went live on June 11, 2024 for the state portion and will go-live August 8, 2024 for the national portion. Please see the information provided to you in the April Educators Update for more detail.
Legislative Update
During the 2024 Legislative Session, House Bill 2745 was adopted which exempts spouses of active military servicemembers who reside or plan to reside in Kansas due to the assigned military station of the individual’s spouse from all occupational licensing, registration, and certification fees.
Effective July 1, 2024, eligible individuals as defined by the bill will be exempt from all original application and license fees, Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) background check fees, and renewal application fees. The applicant or licensee is responsible for indicating eligibility for the exemption each time an application form is completed and could be subject to discipline if eligibility is misrepresented pursuant to K.S.A. 58-3062(f)(1).
The bill requires KREC to implement rules and regulations to implement these provisions. Any changes will be reflected in the Kansas Real Estate Commission Statute Book once revised regulations are adopted.
Required Content Changes – Be on the Lookout
KREC is scheduled to rollout a new website in Summer 2024 and a new licensing system in Fall 2024 which will bring changes to content included in some course materials.
Pre-license and Kansas Required Core course outlines include a requirement for schools to demonstrate to students how to navigate KREC online licensing services. This content often includes screenshots and specific instructions involving the KREC website, digital forms, online licensing portal, and license verification system.
At the January 24, 2024 meeting, the Commission approved a waiver to the requirement that each school submit a new application for course approval if the only change to the course content is related to changes to KREC online services, as long as the school submits proof of the changes no later than 60 days after go-live of the new system.
Prior to launch, KREC will provide schools with updated instructions and screenshots. Schools are required to update the content in the course material and submit proof to KREC via email to kreceducation@ks.gov within 60 days from each go-live date. Be on the lookout for additional information!
Weekend Expiration Date Reminder
As a reminder, CE credit must be conveyed via FTP to KREC within five calendar days of course completion or by the licensee’s expiration date, whichever is sooner.
The September 1 license expiration date falls on a Sunday. If you have a student with an expiration date of September 1, CE credit must be received by KREC no later than midnight of the expiration date to avoid a violation. Please plan accordingly.
