This is the first in a series of quarterly updates for school coordinators approved to teach real estate in Kansas. School coordinators and instructors should subscribe to receive important news from the Kansas Real Estate Commission related to educational requirements.
Weekend Expiration Reminder
This weekend, the first of the month falls on a Saturday. As a reminder, CE credit must be conveyed via FTP to KREC within five calendar days of course completion or by the licensee’s expiration date, whichever is sooner.
If you have a student with an expiration date of April 1, CE credit must be received by KREC no later than midnight of the expiration date to avoid a violation. Verify license numbers and expiration dates at: https://licensing.ks.gov/verification_krec.
Course Completion Certificates
Once course approval is granted, KREC provides the school coordinator with an approved certificate template that must be filled-in and provided to students after course completion for their records.
For CE courses, coordinators may customize this document if it includes all information from the approved form. A sample must be sent to kreceducation@ks.gov for approval before distribution if changes are made to the format.
For pre-license courses, modifications cannot be made to the original template format issued by KREC. For application purposes, KREC and Pearson VUE staff are trained to only accept the completed course certificates in their original format. Any modified certificates issued for pre-license courses will be rejected.
Common Course Audit Violations
When auditing distance education courses, some of the most common issues we find include outdated content, broken links, and inaccurate information. It is important for a school coordinator to frequently review content and update accordingly. Any changes to course content will require a new course application submitted to the Commission for approval.
K.A.R. 86-1-17. Responsibilities of schools. (d)(5) A school shall not publish or distribute information that is false, misleading, or inconsistent with Kansas real estate license law.
K.A.R. 86-1-10. Approved courses of instructions; procedure. (e) Changes to an approved course. (1) Except as provided in paragraph (e)(2), each school shall submit a new application for course approval under subsection (b) if there is any change to the course content, outline, objectives, or presentation platform for an approved course.
Upcoming Pearson VUE Change
Pearson VUE is updating the application-delivery method for students who pass the exam. In the future, applicants will receive a link from the testing center to print the license application and score report themselves. Once this change is effective, updated instructions will be reflected in the Candidate Handbook. Watch for future communication from KREC once this process change is in place.
Educators Meeting
The KREC Educators Meeting is scheduled for September 12, 2023 at 1:00p.m. This is a 3-hour in-person event at the KREC office in Topeka with an option to attend virtually via Zoom. Coordinators and instructors are highly encouraged to participate. Please mark your calendars and share with your staff. We will follow up with more detail in the coming months.
Compliance Courses
Courses on Broker Supervision and BRRETA are offered by the Commission and assigned to licensees as discipline, however many educators attend voluntarily for the information. Details and registration information are available at: https://krec.ks.gov/compliancecourses
