Proposed Regulation Changes
A public hearing will be conducted at 9:00 a.m., Monday, August 22, 2022 to consider the adoption of K.A.R. 86-1-5. The proposed amendment to K.A.R. 86-1-5 removes the fee in regulation to change the affiliation of a Kansas real estate license, clarifies language related to fees for submission of applicant fingerprints to the KBI and increases the fee for submitting an individual education course approval request from $10 to $20 per course.
NOTE: At their January 24, 2022, meeting the Commission approved removing the $15 fee associated with reinstating an inactive license or changing a license affiliation so the proposed regulatory change codifies existing policy.

KREC frequently fields phone calls for information that is attainable online. Available any time, KREC.KS.GOV contains helpful information ranging from FAQs to step-by-step instructions for all online licensing processes. Licensees can complete most license changes and check CE hours by logging into their E-Gov account.
Access the Licensing tab from the homepage to find useful resources including instructions to apply for a license, access to the License Search, and more. The Continuing Education section hosts a Directory of Approved Continuing Education Providers and Courses, information regarding reactivating a license, and material needed for license renewal, including Non-Resident CE information. KREC staff are always happy to assist, however we encourage applicants and licensees to review the website before calling or emailing. This may help you get the information you need even faster.

Employee Spotlight
Jennifer Box is the Administrative Specialist at KREC since November 2021. She answers the phones, processes continuing education submissions for the education department, assists in the planning for the commission meetings, assists the legal department with disciplinary documents, along with various other administrative tasks for the office. Outside of work she loves spending time with her family, going to the lake, and photography.

Inactive vs. Referral Status: Understanding the Difference
The Commission does not have a “referral” license status. A licensee may be affiliated with a company on a referral basis, however this does not automatically place a license on inactive status. An active license is required to complete a referral transaction.
Licensees on inactive status cannot practice activities requiring a Kansas real estate license. The license remains inactive until the licensee reactivates it or it expires due to failure to renew.
The 12-hour CE requirement must be completed when the license is reinstated to active status, however it does not need to be completed by the license expiration date for an inactive license.
If the license has been inactive for two or more years, CE totaling six hours for each full year the license has been on inactive status must be completed prior to reactivation. This is in addition to the 12 hours required for the immediate past renewal period. If the license has been inactive for five or more years, the licensure exam must be passed in addition to the CE requirements prior to reactivation.
When a supervising or branch broker is requesting inactive status, another licensed Kansas broker must take over as the responsible broker to keep the company open and the affiliated licensees in place within the company.
If you hold an active license and have not completed the required CE when your license expires, you have the option to renew your license on inactive status.
