Consumer Resources
The Kansas Real Estate Commission developed a two-page guide, Tips for Buyers and Sellers, located on the new Consumer Resource webpage.
The purpose of this guide and webpage is to provide resources to Kansas consumers working with a licensee to transact real estate and for matters outside of KREC jurisdiction.
We appreciate your assistance with dissemination of this information to consumers.
It Wasn’t Me!
Wendy Alkire | Director of Compliance, Deputy Director
Over the last three and a half years, 26% of complaints filed with KREC were submitted by a Kansas real estate licensee. Many of these complaints were related to advertising, but some alleged a co-oping licensee misused property, failed to make a required disclosure, made a misrepresentation, or committed another violation.
Regardless of who files the complaint, KREC investigates allegations of violations under our jurisdiction. In some investigations we find the licensee(s) involved in the complaint has committed a violation and in others we find no proof of a violation.
Another thing to keep in mind, prior to submitting a complaint, is that KREC may request additional information or documentation from the complainant. If the complainant is a licensee and fails to respond, this could result in disciplinary action for failure to respond.
So, before submitting a complaint to KREC, we suggest reviewing the issues with your broker and taking an objective look at what happened in the transaction or situation.
