Affiliation Changes and Updated Email Addresses
This time of year, many licensees change an active license to inactive and remove the existing company affiliation. It is important licensees update their email address at this time. Renewal reminder emails are returned as undeliverable when the email address on file was associated with a company with whom the licensee is no longer affiliated.
Login to E-Gov and select Affiliation Change to remove existing affiliations and change a license status. Select Name/Contact Info Change to update an email address. A licensee cannot perform activities requiring a Kansas real estate license while on inactive status. An inactive licensee must renew their license when due.
As a reminder, the Kansas Real Estate Commission (KREC) and the Kansas Association of REALTORS® (KAR) are two separate entities. KREC and KAR do not share a database. A licensee who is also a REALTOR® should report contact information and status changes to both KREC and KAR.
If you hold a Kansas real estate license, you are a licensee. Not all real estate licensees are REALTORS®. KREC is a state agency that governs real estate practices, issues your license, and enforces license law. All Kansas real estate licensees must abide by the statutes and regulations under the jurisdiction of the Commission. KAR is a private industry group that provides member services and advocates on behalf of the real estate industry. A REALTOR® is a member of the local, state, and the National Association of REALTORS®. Association members are required to abide by the Code of Ethics and other rules under the membership agreement. In many areas, the local association governs the MLS rules and regulations.
A two-year renewal fee and twelve hours of continuing education are required to maintain licensure through KREC. Separately, membership dues and a Code of Ethics course are required to maintain membership in the Association of REALTORS®.

Unemployment Fraud and Identity Theft
The Kansas Department of Labor (KDOL) created the ReportFraud.ks.gov website to help combat the increasing threat of identity theft and fraudulent unemployment claims. Kansas, like every other state, is seeing a historic increase in theft-related unemployment fraud. To date, KDOL has prevented approximately 45,000 of these false claims from being paid out. The news release is available here for more information.
