As Midwest winters bring subfreezing temperatures, here are a few tips to keep your home’s water running smoothly:
- Be aware of the weather forecast. Any time there are consecutive days under 10 to 20 degrees, there is a chance for your home’s interior water lines to freeze.
- Open cabinet doors to any faucets along exterior walls. This allows for warmer air to circulate along water lines.
- Overnight, let water run in a very slow drip from a faucet furthest away from your home’s main water valve. This allows water to circulate, reducing the chance of a freeze.
- Set thermostats above 65 degrees.
- Keep garage doors closed when not in use.
