United Way Campaign Co-Chair Clara Bernauer

Q: What do you do for the City of Olathe?

A: I assist divisions in Infrastructure with budget and performance management analysis. My main goal is to help draw meaning from the large amounts of data we collect.

Q: Which band is your favorite?

A: Probably a group called The Zolas. I feel like they’ve got interesting lyrics and fun hooks to their songs.

Q: If you could go back to school, what would you study?

A: I might study coding or database management. So much of what we do relies on those areas, and it’d be great to have a stronger foundation there.

Q: What is your proudest accomplishment?

A: I am a daughter of immigrants; my parents moved to this country when I was only 12 years old. I was able to learn a new language and adapt to a new country. Being bilingual has been extremely helpful in my daily life, including at work. Volunteering with Mission South, a local organization that helps the people in Olathe, has been a passion of mine. They provide resources like clothing, food, and support to families in need. Being bilingual has made me the voice for many people and I am immensely proud that I have been able to help others in that way.

One-on-One with Dr. Emily

Everyone has a story, often involving quiet battles that don't meet the eye. Whether it's a challenging chapter of our own story, or the simple desire to feel less stress or a little more joy, there's someone who can help.

The idea of therapy can be both ambiguous and overwhelming. Understanding Therapy breaks down exactly what it is and what your time with Dr. Emily VanLeeuwen would look like.

Confidential appointments are available Monday through Thursday from 8am – 4pm virtually or in a private setting in the basement of City Hall. To set up an appointment, call the Wellbeing Center at 913-971-6992. If you are experiencing a crisis, the Employee Assistance Program is available 24/7 for assistance at 1-800-624-5544 or online using the code Olathe. The Suicide and Crisis Lifeline can also be reached at 988 (like dialing 911).

TEAM Training: Participant Testimonial

k

All-employee TEAM Training is well underway. Here's one participant's experience:

“In successful organizations, teams are important because we can accomplish more together than we ever could on our own. When it comes to being a part of a team, everyone wants to be on a team that is successful but what does that mean or look like?

I think the team training does a great job of answering that question by defining and demonstrating some of the foundational aspects of what it takes to create and work together to create successful teams and outcomes."
