Congratulations to Alan and Dana Cox, whose beautiful property at 527 W. 7th St. has been named Newton's 2026 Yard of the Year!
Chosen from 17 nominations, their landscape stood out for its beauty, thoughtful design, and functionality. Over the past 20 years, they've created a vibrant yard featuring colorful flowers, productive gardens, and a variety of trees that provide shade, support wildlife, and enhance the neighborhood. Located along the Sand Creek Bike Path, their landscape is a welcoming sight for neighbors and visitors alike.

 Mayor Rich Stinnett to put learning into local action
Learning never stops, especially in public service!
As of last week, Mayor Rich Stinnett has begun the Senior Executives in State and Local Government program at the Harvard Kennedy School. Over the coming weeks, he’ll join public leaders from across the country to explore leadership, governance, and innovative approaches to local government.
We’re excited to follow along and share updates from campus as Mayor Stinnett brings new ideas and perspectives back to the Newton community!

Congratulations to Sand Creek Station Golf Course on celebrating its 20th anniversary!
The milestone was commemorated with a banquet that brought together City officials, former and current staff, KemperSports regional and executive leadership, and the original Newton leaders whose vision helped make Sand Creek Station a reality.
The City of Newton extends its congratulations to the Sand Creek Station team on two decades of providing an exceptional golf experience and serving as a valued community asset. Here's to many more years of success!

 First Responder Night at the Newton Rebels baseball game
Newton Fire/EMS was proud to participate in First Responder Night at the Newton Rebels game. Firefighter/Paramedic Cole Sturgeon threw out the ceremonial first pitch, while Firefighter/Paramedics Dillon Richardson, Duane Helms, and Gabe Sauer proudly presented the Colors during the National Anthem.
Thank you to the Newton Rebels for recognizing the dedication and service of our local first responders.
 Updated signage makes it easier to navigate City Hall
Finding your way around City Hall just got a little easier thanks to new signage.
We’ve installed new directional signage throughout all three floors of City Hall to help visitors more easily locate departments, offices, meeting rooms, restrooms, elevators, and other key destinations. Whether you’re stopping by to pay a utility bill, attend a meeting, apply for a permit, or visit with City staff, we hope these updated signs make your visit a little more convenient.
It’s a small improvement that helps create a more welcoming and accessible experience for everyone who walks through our doors. We look forward to seeing you at City Hall!
 Chalk the Block and City Desk bring a colorful Thursday to Newton downtown
What a great Third Thursday in downtown Newton!
Between the July Art Walk, activities along W. 6th Street, the Makers Market on E. 6th, businesses staying open late, City Desk, and Chalk the Block, downtown was buzzing with creativity and connection!
Thank you to everyone who came out, and a special thank you to STAND KS for keeping the fun going-especially with the always-popular 9 Square game! We loved seeing chalk artists of all ages show off their creativity, families playing games, neighbors connecting, and visitors stopping by to meet City staff and learn about city and community resources.

 Custard with Cops supports Special Olympics Kansas
Cool off with a sweet treat while supporting a great cause at Custard with Cops on Wednesday, July 22, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Freddy's Frozen Custard & Steakburgers, 520 SE 14th St.
Several Newton Police Department officers who participated in the Law Enforcement Torch Run will be on hand to meet community members, answer questions, and collect freewill donations benefiting Special Olympics Kansas and its year-round programs for athletes with intellectual disabilities.
During the event, 15% of sales from participating Freddy's locations between 4:00 and 8:00 p.m. will also be donated to Special Olympics Kansas through the Law Enforcement Torch Run program.
Stop by, enjoy some frozen custard, meet your local officers, and help support an incredible cause.
