Keep pets safe at home this holiday weekend
More dogs run away on the Fourth of July than any other time of year. Here are some tips to keep yours safe this week:
- Keep your dog indoors as much as possible, with windows closed and blinds shut. Play music or the television for background noise.
- Keep a collar and tag on your dog this week, even if they don't usually wear one. It makes returning them home so much quicker.
- Keep doors and gates secure.
- Provide a safe place for them to retreat, like a crate or bed.
- Give them plenty of exercise during the day before fireworks start.
Let’s help keep our furry friends safe, calm, and home where they belong!

What to know about door-to-door solicitors
Summer is door-to-door sales season! We've received a number of questions and concerns from residents lately, so here's what you should know:
- A peddler's license is required when going door-to-door to sell goods. That way the City is aware of their activity and has their contact information in case of any issues. Feel free to ask a salesperson to see their City license.
- A handbill license is needed if someone is going door-to-door and leaving pamphlets at homes where no one answers the door. (However, these requirements do not apply to political, religious, youth, or education organizations.)
- If a salesperson is suspicious, threatening or refuses to leave your property, please call 911 so an officer can come out and speak to them.
