Five juveniles arrested in Newton shooting
Five Newton teens were arrested after a shooting Wednesday evening in Newton.
The five boys, all believed to be 17, are facing various charges depending on their involvement, including attempted murder, aggravated robbery, illegal possession of a firearm, possession of a stolen firearm, and drug possession.
The shooting occurred at around 5:30 Wednesday evening at an apartment complex in the 1200 block of East Broadway. One boy was injured and taken by ambulance to a Wichita hospital. He was treated and released and was later arrested.
Police worked three scenes overnight: the apartment complex on East Broadway where the shooting occurred, a house near 10th and Oak where the injured teen first fled, and a car crash near Second and High where a fleeing suspect hit a parked car.
Police have interviewed many witnesses and are still working to confirm what happened and why. They believe they have spoken to all those involved, and the community is not in danger.
