 NRC Community Camp 101
As part of Newton Recreation Commission's Community Camp 101, campers got an interactive, behind-the-scenes look this week at what it’s like to serve with the Newton Police Department.
The day started with each camper receiving their very own police vest and badge—setting the stage for a hands-on experience. From there, they explored the path to becoming an officer, learned about the various roles within the department, got familiar with the gear used on the job, and discovered why safety, service, and community matter most. They even put their skills to the test in an obstacle course featuring cones, a "laser" maze, and a chase to catch a "suspect!"
And of course donuts were included – we figured if they’re going to train like officers, they might as well snack like 'em too.
Later in the week, our Parks staff got to host the campers. They took a tour of the shop and equipment to learn about the various tasks the Parks Division is responsible for.
We're always proud to connect with our community in meaningful (and fun!) ways. Thanks to the NRC and everyone who helped make this camp experience one to remember!

 City Desk at NHS
We had a nice time connecting with community members Wednesday night at Newton Public Schools' Open Enrollment event. Shout out to Newton High School for hosting and for offering us the opportunity to chat about City happenings!
We can’t wait to see you at the next City Desk from 3:30-4:30 p.m. on Aug. 15 in Military Park. Newton Fire/EMS will be there for popsicles, yard games, and fun!
 Street Maintenance
Ever wonder how Newton keeps its streets in shape? Our Street Division follows a rotating maintenance schedule, dividing the city into 7 zones — working on one area each year. This year, we're in Area 1.
Each road is carefully evaluated to ensure the right maintenance is done at the right time, stretching resources and getting the most value for your tax dollars. While we’d love to fix every street at once, we operate within the real limits of our budget and staffing. With that being said, we work year-round to keep Newton moving.
