 Work to begin on East 12th Street
Traffic will be restricted to eastbound only on East 12th Street between Main and Pine beginning Monday, June 9.
The contractor, Kansas Paving, will keep one lane open at a time during construction, always maintaining eastbound traffic only. Westbound traffic will be detoured south on High Street, west on 10th, north on Main Street, and then west onto 12th Street.
The project will consist of milling, full-depth patching, asphalt overlay, some curb and gutter work, and pavement markings. It’s expected to be complete Aug. 15, weather permitting.
This section of 12th Street carries 5,000-6,000 vehicles per day and is a well-used route to Newton High School and major commercial businesses such as Dillons and Walgreens. Last summer, the City evaluated all streets in town for pavement condition, and this location was rated 20 out of 100.
