 International Women's Day
International Women's Day is March 8! City staff marked the occasion a little bit early, inviting staff to wear purple on Thursday to celebrate our female staff and the incredible caring, hard work, and fun they bring to our organization. We are who we are because of our diverse women leaders; their different ideas and perspectives create a path for future young leaders who will follow in their footsteps.
 Daylight Saving Time
When you spring forward this Sunday, don't forget to change your smoke detector batteries. This is also a good time to practice your home escape plan in case of fire.
Tree Cities of the World
We are pleased to announce Newton has again been recognized as a Tree City of the World for the fifth year. To earn Tree Cities of the World recognition, a City must demonstrate its commitment by meeting five program standards: Establish responsibility for the care of trees, set rules to govern the management of forests and trees, maintain an updated inventory or assessment of local tree resources, allocate resources for a tree management plan, and hold an annual celebration of trees to educate residents. Newton has been a Tree City USA for 49 years.
