 Blue Christmas
Newton Police Department is now accepting nominations for the annual Blue Christmas program. The program is designed to assist families in need with gifts for Christmas. The program can only accept a limited number of families. The participants must live in the City of Newton. If you would like to nominate yourself or a family in need, please contact Cpl. Morgan Gronau at mgronau@npdks.org or 316-284-6030. The deadline for nominations is Dec. 6.
Holiday trash schedule
City offices will be closed next Thursday and Friday for the Thanksgiving holiday, and the trash collection schedule will also be altered. Thursday's route will run on Wednesday. The rest of the week's routes will run as usual. Happy Thanksgiving!

Newton Recreation Commission
- Construction of the press box has begun at Railer Field in Centennial Park.
- City crews are preparing the pad for the new batting cages at Centennial that were funded by softball parents from Newton High School. The families paid for the materials to build the fencing and netting, the City is providing the rock for the base and labor to pour the concrete pad, and Newton Rec Commission is paying for the concrete and building the batting cage structure.
- NRC will have a fundraiser night at Applebee's on Monday, Dec. 9 to support their Halloween and Easter community events. Mention the fundraiser, and Applebee's will donate 25% to NRC.
