 36th Street bridge replacement to begin next week
The Kansas Department of Transportation is expected to begin replacement of the Southeast 36th Street bridge over I-135 on Monday, Aug. 12.
The $16.5 million project will provide a wider bridge with two lanes and a turn lane as well as a sidewalk.
During the work, 36th Street will remain open to traffic, but drivers there and on I-135 should be prepared to slow down through the work zone. Access to businesses along 36th Street will be maintained but could be altered at times to allow for construction operations.
Pearson Construction is the primary contractor. The work is expected to be completed by Nov. 1, 2025.
