Newton Public Library

Train bookshelf in children's area at library

The train has arrived at the new library and is ready for little readers! Opening day is set for April 1, with a ribbon-cutting at 10 a.m.

City Clerk

Denise Duerksen with Clerk of the Year Award

We could not be more proud of City Clerk Denise Duerksen, who has been named the 2024 Mildred Vance City Clerk/Finance Officer of the Year for the State of Kansas.

This award is presented each year to a City Clerk or Finance Officer who has made significant contributions to the State association, the profession and their community.

Denise has worked for the City for almost 33 years and has served as city clerk since 2007. Her dedication and community service is second to none! We are so fortunate to have her on our team. Congratulations, Denise!

Water/Wastewater

Staff at the Wastewater Treatment Plant cleaned out clogged diffusers in digester #3 this week. Kaden Ward helped lift the mood with a heart in the surface scum.

Newton Rec Commission

The new lights at Railer Field are up and working well. The Rec Commission funded the lights from their operating budget.

Parks & Street

Street crew doing concrete work on new sidewalk

Street crews this week completed a new sidewalk at Centennial Dog Park from the main gate to the shelter area.

Sand Creek Station Golf Couse

Registration is open for volunteers to help work the 2024 U.S. Adaptive Open at Sand Creek Station Golf Course. The national championship for golfers with disabilities is scheduled for July 8-10.

Volunteer duties may include player registration, cart and scooter assistance, crowd control, ball spotting, refreshments, and shuttle transportation. You do not have to be a golfer to volunteer.
